View Full Version : Need help replacing my radiator
zolog 01-06-2006, 09:26 PM Hi,
I just bought the Behr radiator, waterpump, hoses and thermostat from bimmerzone. I am looking for a reliable mechanic or someone who can replace these in my 328i. I would love to do it myself, except I live in an apartment and have no access to a garage or shed to do it. :) I should get the radiator on Monday.
Folks know somebody in Central NJ who can help me out? I live in Woodbridge, NJ across from the Woodbridge Center mall
cheers....

I still haven't received the radiator... will get it on Monday... I live in Woodbridge, NJ. Quite a distance away, but I don't mind - will enjoy the drive. Not tomorrow, though...
CMUZYY 01-06-2006, 10:08 PM maybe the following saturday, the shop is open for fun time on saturdays, would not mind doing it. during the week we are crazy busy sell and install cooling parts on e36's
zolog 01-06-2006, 10:18 PM Ok... I looked up, you're like 1.5 hrs away... I think my radiator is leaking, the check coolant light comes on every couple of days... I can see some liquid on near the outlet hose... Do you think it is ok if I am going to drive that long? My usual drives are like a few miles at most...
Anyways, let me know what I need to get... I got the radiator (behr), waterpump, hoses, thermostat... decided to change the others while the rad's out... I guess I should get the coolant and the distilled water too, right? How much coolant? 1 or 2 gallons?
cheers

CMUZYY 01-06-2006, 10:20 PM the upper hoses inlet is leaking at the rad?
CMUZYY 01-06-2006, 10:22 PM also change the thermostat housing, use the aluminum one, the gasket, the belts, and make sure the belt pulleys are not making nosie, you can check them when the belts are off. but ultimatly i would not drive that far.

it does not look like the hose is leaking. i can see some fluid on the radiator near the hose below the inlet.

The 328's need 3 gallons of fluid for the e36's (as per the Bentley) but the stuff from the dealer is not pre-mixed so you need 2 gallons. I've read through the instructions for bleeding the system and it sounds like you are gonna waste some fluid anyways so you're better off getting 2 gallons of the non-mixed stuff.

Hey, could ya tell me where you changed it? Whenever I pop the hood and start doing something in a parking lot, I get suspicious looks from the security and cops passing by. I don't want to get into trouble for fixing my own car...
:)
So did you fix it or what? lol
zolog 01-12-2006, 12:29 PM Bill,
You are da MAN... thanks so much for helping out with this. Looking at all the coolant gushing out, I wonder how 93bmw325is changed it in a parking lot. Not to mention the mess...
Anyways, thanks a ton... Now I know where to hang out and check out bimmers... :)
cheers
