Hello all,
As the title reads. Its been a while since we have done this run... I figured its never too early to start this up. Anyhoo, I hope everyone can plan around it even though its far away. Another Ellijay MTN drive is being planned for March 18th. As always we will be stopping for lunch at our favorite cajun place, The Cajun Depot in downtown Ellijay, Georgia. We will be meeting at the East Brainard Winn-Dixie parking lot at 9:45 AM and departure set for 10:15AM. If anyone needs directions, let me know. The drive will take about 4 to 5 hours depending on how long lunch takes. As always the more the better. Hopefully the early spring weather will grant us with its presence. I will go ahead and start a list for the people attending. Just add your name if you want to join. I know its far away, but at least you cant say I didnt tell you ahead of time! Hope you guys can make it as we always have a nice group! Cya soon. :redspot

No prob bob. I MIGHT be in for the run on the 11th. Ive had the itch to drive for quite a while now. What route are you planning? My wheels are suposed to be back to me on the 10th so if I get them back and have them on my car, I will be there. If not then Ill just have to sit this one out. I'm in for sure on the 11th, how about the dragon possibly? The route I take is just over an hour with a fuel stop before getting to the dragon. I think last time I went up there with my dad it took aboue an hour and 20 mins. Or a dry run up signal, mowbry and etc.. would be fun.

You can call me a lot of things but, "bob" just isn't me...lol.. :)...jk....

We can make up a route easily enuf, I would say depending on the time frame of the majority of attendees... If everyone has the time the Dragon is not out of the question... That will turn into nearly an all day thing for most of us..
I can go along with whatever, we need input from the others going along..

How about it guys and or girls ? Speak up !... Let's hear it...

..

rs4pro3
01-31-2006, 07:49 PM
If we did the dragon and left at 8 a.m. we could easily be back by 1:30-2:00 depending on where we stop for lunch. That's typically the time I'm back home when I run it with the knoxville group. I'm equaly as happy with doing a local run.

Steve, You intrested in having a meet and greet around lunch time with the Old Dixie Chapter? They are doing a run up here and some are staying overnite. I was thinking for us to do our run in the morning and pick a place for everyone to meet and have a nice meal. Any ideas? Questions? Complaints? Cussin or disscussin?

I should be in for the drive on the 11th. My wheels will be back on thursday so as long as the tires are mounted Ill be good to go. If I cant make the drive I would def be in for a meet and greet with the Dixie chapter. LMK.

If not, I may just come out and have a nice lunch. Weather permitting, understand, I don't care about cold but rain/wet kinda takes things down too far. So, if it's not wet..

We will meet at the old Bi-Lo on Broad St. @ 9am Sat Feb- 11th. We will run mtn roads south possibly close to Menlo or Trenton. We will take a quick vote before we leave. One factor being the time it takes to go where ever...

If the weather is alright, I should be there. The wife will be out of town, so real commitments at home.

I made the cards for exactly that reason Josh. I talked to Chuck at the last meeting, and he showed me what they had before. So I just updated it a little. Thought it would be a way to get info out there a little easier.

Rear. i believe passenger side.
That is the one and only job I've ever had a mechanic do on my car, he broke his $400 tool trying to get the bearing out, and then was almost to the point of sending the trailing arm to a machine shop to get the bearing pressed out. If it hasn't been bad for long, they will ussualy come out easy or if the car isn't rusty, I drove on mine for a month, and the car came from PA.

IF YOU CANNOT KEEP UP WITH THE MORE EXPERIENCED DRIVERS IT IS OK...
YOU DO NOT NEED TO SHOW OFF TO PEOPLE... Everytime people have to play I have bigger balls and can do more stupid stuff than anyone else... ends in a wreck and everyone having to hang around because they do not want to be a dick and leave the person there... DO NOT EXCEED YOUR OWN PERSONAL LIMITS...

Thanks for that info...but as a "Veteran" and as the person that has taken the initiative to always set this run up, we all here understand and know what our cars can handle. The normal 5 or 6 of us that usualy go on these drives are a very close knit experienced group that understand what and what not to do. I have given this speech more than a handful of times and I feel it does not need to be addressed again. I normally set the pace of the drive pretty quick, not dangerous. We are not out to test our limits, but we are out to enjoy a nice drive and have fun with other BMW enthusiasts. No that I sound like a dickhead, I hope you guys can make it out! Should be a fun one! :redspot

The weather was nice today and I had all day, so I went ahead and threw in some Bilstein sports, pulled the rear spring pads, installed my Stainless steel catback(had to drop the exhuast as the middle nuts were to rusty), and replaced one of the tie rod boots. Got it all back together and man the car rides a lot better, my old shocks were nice and blown, I think I was riding on the bump stops most of the time. I just have to adjust the preload on the front sway bar(once everything settles) and I'm set to go.

Ya daytona would be fun, but I'll be undeneath an e30 instead dropping a tranny and yanking an engine. Oh and throwing a new wheel bearing on the e30. And possibly trying to figure out the best way to install some new goodies I got in the mail today :devillook

i gota pull some money out of my ass for this meet. i didnt realise it was next week! AHHH!

oh...hahah.. i forgot, my girlfriends dad backed into my car and just scratched it up a little and wrote me a 200 dollar check today.
.....course i went out and bought spark plugs and 7 quarts of mobil 1 synthetic. and some .... cleaning stuff. And some food. And me and kayla went to rembrandts, cause we havent done that in a while (coffee house in bluffview art district) and i gota go down to the stealership tommorrow and buy an oilfilter. I guess i'll save the rest of my money for saturday. I may end up having to bail though, the car has been ... running kinda crappy lately. Hesitating and what not... Maybe after a good tuneup it will be running better. Guess we'll see.

If your car isnt running good and properly, I would think more than twice about coming. I dont mean to sound like a dickhead when I say that but I hope you understand what I mean. These drives are not worth risking your life over. Please dont think of me as being an A-hole for saying that. Im just watching out for your safety and everyone elses. Let me know if you need anything.

OH, lol, no offense taken at all. What i meant by crappy was it was in need of a good tune up... which i just did today and its running fine.. I'm hopefully going to get some new brake rotors and pads this weekend.

and i dont think of you as an "a-hole" for saying that, i actually appreciate the fact that you care about the safety of others and i think thats very respectable.

Yeah, that's the car. A 944 turbo. It's not bad for what he gave for it. It runs pretty good too, and he's happy with it. So I guess that's what matters. He said he wanted something he could do mods to, and wanted to keep his 911 stock.

He's planning to put a cage in the 944, plus quite a few other mods. I guess it'll be a track/street car for him.

I'm back from Colorado finally. Snowboarding with 11 of my friends out at Copper Mountain was awesome. Driving there and back in a minivan definitely wasn't awesome. I tell you what, nothing feels better than the driver's seat of your own car after being gone for a week. Especially if that seat just so happens to be attached to a 5 speed e28 :D . I'll be there this weekend, but I want to try to get my starter replaced before then, and I need to do a valve adjustment on the m30. Oh and my trunk seal needs to be replaced sometime. And I still haven't painted the car. Or put on the new front spoiler. I'll never be done with this car.

We went Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Sunday was really icy, I took a couple of good slams because of it. The rest of the week was pretty good, but Friday was definitely the best day. 8 inches of powder the night before, a good grooming, and more snow coming down the whole day.

They are made by Bridgestone, sort of a low grade affordable Potenza tire. I'm running them on the e30 and love them, a lot better then the Es100's I had on it before with the crazy sidewall flexing.

I believe the treadwear on the tires is at about 85-90 percent. I only had that set up on my car for 2 months or so. I really have no idea what the tires would go for used, so just shoot me an offer. The 225s go for 96 bucks plus shipping on Tirerack, the 235s go for 110. I personally think that they are an excellent tire at that price, and they're currently what I'm running with the 18s I got from Joe.

Depends on how low you wanna go...
Bavarian has some for right under $200, they are made by H&R.. I have had them on my car for 2 yrs now and they still sit exactly the same..

Oh, and they are not hard to change I did mine myself in an afternoon.. The rears take 45 Mins, the front take about 45 min each side... You should replace the shocks and struts at the same time. That will make it even easier..
And you only take it apart once !

325i Vert

Yeah, using stock shocks with lowering springs is a big nono...:nono I had the Bav Auto springs on my E30 Vert and loved them to death. A little soft but they were a great value and lowered the car quite a bit more than other springs would.
