Has anybody gone karting there? Their karts seem badass but $300/2hrs is a little high.

The 125cc shifter karts are the most expensive, they also have two different other karts that are much lower/hr.

Iron Rock opened up about a year ago. I checked it out, their membership fees are ridiculous: $5000 one time fee plus $150/mo for the top end membership. If you have your own kart you can bring it out for $100/day BUT, you can only get 4 days /yr!?!?!? Someone on the phone actually told me that if I had $2000 to spend over the year, they wouldn't let me run anymore than 4 days/$400. They wouldn't take my money. (funny their prices aren't listed on the web page anymore)

They are trying to set up a country club. I think their target customer is a upper-upper middle class family with young kids that the parents want to get into karting/racing early. And get their track as a venue on the big circuit. Nothing wrong with that just that I can't imagine that demographic is prevelant in Austin.

It is a nice facility though, and if you are a member, the garage area is very nice. Haven't been on the track but it looks fun. Opening day they had the Birel team from Italy there for an exhibition, test and tune day. The fast guys were running 100+ down the front straight.

The rental karts are 8hp engines (think malibu Grand prix), I don't think you can rent shifters. Things may have changed but when I checked it out, it was lame. Can't believe they are still in business to be honest, their business model is/was not good.

They don't cater to the guys (like me) that have a kart and want to run on the weekend. My buddy and I found a track in San Marcos about 30-45 minutes south of Austin that is $150/yr. unlimited track time and races almost every weekend. http://hckc.org/events.html

Granted the facilities are less than IR but I'd rather have the track time.

The price is high/hr
but it's sorta like a DE. sorta.
