I would never pay that much for trailing arms, I would then have to turn around and buy new rotors, pads, get the calipers rebuilt, and new brake lines, maybe even new e-brake cables. So for the $420 bid, turns out to be $300 for parts, so $700 for a brake system that is equal to the stock 320i drums??? Thats just my opinion though. vtbimmer 01-04-2006, 03:02 PM Dont forget the price to ship!! jjgbmw323 01-04-2006, 03:13 PM So whats the "?" for? About a year ago, there was a few 323i(s) that where parted around my area, and I had a pick of what ever they had. I really dont need to much more than chrome, so i passed. Just a thought - could you not find a wrecked 323i parts car, salvage the usable parts and at the end of the day be better off that paying that mola for those parts. HINT: They are in the back of the roundel magazine in the classified section, craigslist, hidden in a spot in rual NH moutains which is a massive BMW resting ground 250 cars, as well as on yahoo groups e21 email digest. BMW_E21_Digest-subscribe@yahoogroups.com, But hey, I am the dummy who has bought parts about 3 times for my car, so what the heck do I know.... Here is only some of the things I have done. * Took apart a 325i head of an 87 325i only to fiqure out this is an eta head . *Price = 175 plus my labor. I dont need it, since its an eta head. It said 325i on the car, had the i manifold, but had casting numbers of eta stamped in it. Had to buy a second head. * Purchased aftermarket 323i fenders and rockers, from Eric Veng. *Price = 300 plus - still have the fenders. They never went on the car. Aftermarket fenders are not the same as Orginal stuff, so I got the Fenders from BMW, along with rockers. * Purchased "Hartge" calipers from germany - only they are really Volvo *Price = 400 plus - have not put them on yet * Purchased a good "used" front euro bumper - only it was junk. *Price= 150 only used right side of the bumper-resold the rest on ebay. * Purchased strut housings on ebay to make coil overs. Struts where mounted upside down and could not seperate shock inserts from housings * Price 150 - resold them on ebay. Still need housings for the front. * Purchased Zender 3 piece side skirt and Zender low end skirts. *Price = 300 side skirts + rear skirt = dont really like them. Put them under my bed for 8 years. Had them installed. The side skirts where drilled into the rockers. decided I like my car better without the skirts *Err^&*!!!! :mad too late. They are never comming off now... ***getting my 323i to run after 11 years later with clogged injectors *Priceless fatstreet1 01-06-2006, 07:00 PM I agree with CJ. That's a lot of money and work for braking that on the street is no better than the stock drum system. I have a 1980 320i with a stock braking system and a 1978 320i with vented discs up front and 323i discs on the rear. The proportioning valve was also switched over to the 323i version. On the street, the braking on the stock 1980 is every bit as good, and in some ways better, than the modified 1978. Admittedly, the "cool factor" is much higher on the rear disc system. And I suspect that in a track situation with repeated heavy braking the 4 wheel disc version would have an advantage. But for everyday use, with occasional spirited driving, the stock system is great, at no extra cost. -Larry sil0kin 01-07-2006, 03:05 PM i can run the stock brake line right? i dont have to get any type of higher regulator or anythig of that sort right?. ill post pix soon of the accident by the way jjgbmw323 01-07-2006, 03:15 PM i can run the stock brake line right? i dont have to get any type of higher regulator or anythig of that sort right?. ill post pix soon of the accident by the way Yes. I heard its the stock brake lines. Not sure if you need to upgrade the master cylinder. Pics of the accident or Ban bro... jrcook320 01-07-2006, 05:43 PM i can run the stock brake line right? i dont have to get any type of higher regulator or anythig of that sort right?. ill post pix soon of the accident by the way The 323i use 4 flexible lines in the rear instead of 2 because the caliper moves. The 2 extra lines use a bango fitting so the 320i lines will not work. I bought 2 SS lines from Bav auto. If you go that route, make sure you also order new bango bolts and washers because the new lines are too small for the old bolts. My trailing arms also didn't have metal lines on them and the 320i lines are too long, so I had to bend up my own. That's easy, you can buy metric lines in varying lengths at autozone for cheap. I paid $250 for my trailing arms and everything was toast and needed completely rebuilt. One of the trailing arms was completely bent. Long story short, it ended up being a long nightmare that got more and more expensive with every step. I probably spent at least $700 before it was all said and done, but I don't like to keep count. I'm sure you can do it for less. Check my car domain for pics of the install. Not sure if you need to upgrade the master cylinder. you can use the stock MC, but I would try to find a 323i prop valve or run an aftermarket adjustable valve. slowe21 01-08-2006, 02:12 AM The 323i and 320i MC are the same part. Agree on the proportioning valve. My car goes in tomorrow to have the rear end done. I'll keep you posted. Cheers Windy |
