I was in San Francisco for new years, which should have been a fun night but it turned into a horrible night. Long story short, my friends and I were walking back to our hotel after watching the fireworks at pier 39. When we got to market street we came up to a huge group of cops, 15 to 20 of them, just standing around. As we got closer I noticed that there was a guy laying face first in the crosswalk, at first I tought, drunk dude passed out, but when we got closer I heard one of cops say, "looks like he got stomped on the neck". The guys buddy was crying hysterically and some chick was telling a cop that some guy tried to steal his wallet and the guy (in the street) tried to fight back. I got closer and realized the guy in the street was dead, and instead of waiting around to try and learn more, I got the girls I was with out of there before they understood what was going on. They aren't the kind of girls that would take this kind of thing easy and I didn't want to ruin their night, I figured I would tell them later.
It was strange though, we walked up on the scene within ten minutes after the guy was murdered, all the cops there were beat cops and there weren't even any patrol cars there yet. If we would have left a little sooner we could have seen it happen! I'm glad we stayed around the pier to take pictures.
Anyways, I want to know if anyone heard anything about this? I've heard that some guy was stabbed on market street, but I don't know if this is the same story. I didn't see any blood, but I didn't stick around and stare, I was more concerned about getting the girls away. If you heard anything let me know.

I didnt hear anything about it, maybe because I was in your town for New Years but it probably isn't that big of a deal because stuff like that happens all the time

didn't hear about it either. pretty sad.

what part of market street was it? the tenderloin (one sf's worst areas) is just a couple steps from union square/downtown shopping area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenderloin,_San_Francisco

Wow, that is really intense man! I live actually in a building on the outside rim of the tenderloin, tendernob. Anyway I wasn't in SF for new years which was too bad because SF is fun on new years, and didn't hear anything about this. I've yet to see anything that tramatic in SF since I've lived there, but I'm positive that all the homeless laying on the sidewalks aren't all alive. I'd be surprised if this was anywhere near the EMB on market, you must have been past powell atleast.

Just gotta give your shit up man, i'm never going to be as crazy as someone who wants to steal my shit to fight for it. A life is worth much more than anything held on it.

I really can't tell you, all I know is that it was between 5th St. and the warf on market. About a mile and a half from 5th. Yeah, doesn't narrow it down much. I didn't look at the street sign. Is the tenderloin closer to the warf or on the other side of market? During the day we walked up market and hit a part of town that seemed a little shady, porn shops, run down shops, etc. If we were in the tenderloin area during the day, then that wasn't the same area of the murder.

Yeah, If I were in that guys situation, my pride would make me want to fight back, but I wouldn't. I don't want to die for $50 bucks in my wallet, just not worth it. I don't think any amount of money is worth dying for.
