Hello,
I have never posted in this section so first an introduction, I'm Erik.

Now that's over with could someone give me some general ideas on amp and crossover selection for my setup.

Alpine CDA-9847 head unit
Alpine KC 4201 Ipod adapter
Kenwood KFC P503 5 1/4" - in kicks
Kenwood KFC P503 1"- in doors
MB Quart DKC 108 3 1/2" - in doors
Kenwood KFC 6979IE 6"x9" in rear deck

The Kenwood 5 1/4" and 1" speakers came together with a mid high crossover as a component package. I split these speakers up and ran the MB Quart 3 1/2" speakers and the Kenwood tweeters in the doors with the Kenwood crossover supplied with the component package. As it stands right now the rear deck speakers and the front kick panel speakers have no crossovers. I found threads about deleting the stock amp and that is completed.

Kfc 6879ie specs
Speaker Type
3-way Passive

Max (RMS) Output Power
240 Watt

Response Bandwidth
28 - 28000 Hz

Input Impedance
4 Ohm

Sensitivity
93 dB

Kfc p503 specs
Max (RMS) Output Power
170 Watt

Response Bandwidth
45 Hz - 32 kHz

Impedance
4 ohm (Dual Coil)

Sensitivity
90 dB

DKC P503 specs
Max (RMS) Output Power
20-50 watts

Response Bandwidth
90 - 32000 Hz

Impedance
4 Ohm

Sensitivity
84 dB

I know very little on Ohms/ Hz/ Watts/ ect.... I can wire stuff together but I know there is a fine art of putting together a great sounding system. I am just looking for a decent sounding system as a stock upgrade, nothing crazy. So with all that said what kind of amp should I be looking for for the above speakers to get the most out of what I just installed? Most multi-channel amp usually come with built in crossovers right? So if I get the right amp I won't need to buy seperate crossovers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Erik

Hot bike.

The cheapest thing that you can do is buy a 3 way passive crossover, I see the CDT HD300 crossover for sale all the time. Purchase a 4ch amp, channels 1+2 will go to fronts, channels 3+4 will go to the 6x9s in rear. Chances are, it might not sound right, but it'll work.

Other route, go active. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Okay, so what you've done is made a 3-way front stage?

Install the 5 1/4" Kenwoods and bandpass them.

Try to find out the frequency range for the 3" MBQ's because if you are using the Kenwood crossover, chances are they may be getting frequencies lower than they can reproduce which can lead to damage.

Your Alpine should be able to take care of the crossover duties, however if you would like an all-in-one amplifier, an a/d/s/ P650.2 or P850.2 will be able to run the whole lot and they have excellent onboard crossovers. You should be able to pick up a used unit on eBay.

They also have a low profile so are very install friendly.

Also running active isn't expensive at all. You just need a good multichannel amplifier.

Thanks for the help guys.

yes

The frequency range for the mb quart 3 1/2" are 90 - 32000 Hz. The frequency range for the kenwood 5 1/4" is 45 - 32000 Hz.

Everything is installed already. I had to look up "bandpass" in the car audio dictionary:D . What frequency range should I be looking for on the 5 1/4" kicks? What should I do with the 6"x9"'s? They are described as a "3 way passive". I assume that means they can be hooked up without any additional crossover. Is that right?

As you can tell I didn't have a game plan when I bought all this stuff.

First of all forget about the 6x9s until you sort out the front end, that is the most important.

Okay, what is the frequency range of your tweeters? You could cross the Kenwoods from about 50Hz - 250/300Hz, then cross the MBQs from 250Hz - 3Khz or wherever the tweeters start.

You will have to experiment to get them sounding as good as possible but see how you go with it. I was going to suggest you low-pass the 6x9s but that may not be such a good idea. I don't like 6x9s at all. If you can afford it buy some stealthboxes and lowpass them around 120Hz.
