So, I went over to Best Buy the other day. Wanted to inquire about how much they would charge for an install. Talked to a dude there (at the installation bay) that claimed to have worked on BMWs at a BMW dealership for 4 years. He told me that if I just took out the stock HU and put in an aftermarket one my check engine light would come on. He said it was not a big problem though as he could just run a wire to under my seat and have the stock HU just lay there.
I had never heard of this and tried to raise my opinion that he might somehow mistake my car for another car or something like that. But he was quite insistent.
I am just trying to learn as much as I can, but he is wrong about this, right??

He was smoking crack and lots of it. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard and 100% BS.
Sure says a lot when you go from working at a dealership to Best Buy. Nothing against the BB folks, but that is a major demotion. Maybe he meant that he sold crack to someone that worked at a BMW dealership for 4 years before he got caught. Was this the guy?

Heh, you might be on to something. Except this was a white boy and was lacking the pipe, at least when I talked to him. Alright. So now I know where not to go to have my install done! Thanks hksimpson! :)
Here I am, just trying to pick up something about car audio and BMW everday and then I run into shit like this.

I might do that. I am not a DIY kind of guy, but trying here, trying. Thanks for the tip on the guide from Crutchfield!
