Yeah sure, 6 gears sure are nice. But this is the thread for those who were looking for the exotic inline six growl. Although they may have less power than the V8, I'm pretty sure the 5-spd's were less than 10% of the 535i production. Is this more rare than the 540i/6? Show 'em if you got 'em!

1990 (Oxford or Iceland..?) Green on parchment leather. Just hit 170k.
Euro turns, tails, and bumper trim. Black kidneys, M-parallels for summer wheels.

I'm not sure if the big six manual is harder to find than the v8 manual. I think I've read that just 5% of the 535s had the 5 spd in them. I would think they'd be about the same, though, at least in the E34. I think the E39 v8 6spds are easier to come by.

1990 Iceland green metallic with... natural(?) interior. It's the tan color, not sure what it's called. Just about to turn over 150k. Dinan chip, euro headlights. Pics will be forthcoming!

also would you recommend the 3.91 even if i do a nice amount of highway cruising?

Thanks :)

The B&B is a catback. The 3.91 is great, on the highway its not terrible, but not great. I cruise at ~3300 at 80 in 5th. I'll most likely be selling/trading it in the near future due to a turbo going in the car :evil2

Why not have the best of both worlds and install the 1995 Euro M5 6-speed into the 535? It's a perfect fit.

Haven't put any money into this car except stuff to make it run better (unlike my previous E30, which I put every damned cent into fixing up :rolleyes). Just kind of holding me over till I decide wether it gets forced induction and body work - or till I find another e30. I had a minor accident, but instead of using the money to fix the car, I bought a canon 20D. Oops!!

1989 535i, 133k miles (engine and drivetrain are in near-perfect shape), Dsylvia tech chip, 3.91 limited slip, Z3 1.9 shifter (best $50 you can spend on one of these...), and shitty Depo ellipsoids.

Chose this pic since it hides most of the body... :stickoutt

Add that to all the other recent problems popping up about the V8's (both old and current - like carbon buildup problems). V8 BMW? No thanks!

They are great, they are just modded to the max prety much from the factory. Any more mods arent too cosat efficient. If you dont like mods, they are fine. The LS1 bolt in , stock, from GM, is now advertsied as a 380 horsepower engine. Thats insane. That and getting 27 mpg to 23 mpg. Ive owned two. They were the shizznit

Hi guys, sorry for the thread dig.

Posting to say that I've recently picked up my first bimmer (and first car ever!); a 1990 535iM and I couldn't be happier. It's calypsorot, tan leather interior (I think its called tan, it's quite a light shade).

It's got about 188,000 KMs on it (117k miles), completely stock, and drives impeccably. :D

I'd post a pic but I dont think I can until I have 25 posts (I think that's right?) and also it's in the shop getting a road worthy certificate. So I will definitely post a pic in a week or so when I get her for good.

There's a couple of things that I need to fix, IE roof needs a respray (quite badly faded) and there's a hole in the driver's seat which must be fixed. Also, I dont think the previous owner had cleaned it in years, it was absolutely filthy so I'm getting it properly detailed. Anway, you can see how excited I am!

This is me right now :alright :buttrock

1990 535im, build date 2/90, black/black.

Options: 3.46 LSD, heated seats.

Mods: none so far, 17" wheels (prolly Style 5s), shocks/springs, and EAT chip to come.

Misc: It needs a new exhaust (anyone got any suggestions/exhausts for sale?). Just fixed the sagging headliner though! Word to the wise, don't bother trying to reupholster it yourself, the local auto-upholstery shop charged me $70 (including material), and the kit from WLS is around $55 with shipping... NOT worth it IMO.

I'd post pics, but I don't have 25 posts yet, more of a lurker...

:embarrasm just bringing this thread back in light of my two new additions to the family, my two poor twins:

1990 535i 5-speed black on black. spotless interior. :(unfortunately it was wreaked when I bought it (hit hard on the driver's side front) engine runs great though and I have already done something with it that I will share with you all later.
180k miles
EAT chip
some rust on front doors
extremely bent hood, driver's side fender, and door
unfortunately it is beyond resurecting :( ...rip poor bimmer.

and another identical 1990 535i 5-speed black on black. ...um a little rough to say the least. Actually about the only thing it has going for it is that it runs like a top.
spray paint paint job on the passenger side
miscelaneous drywall and wood screws holding who knows what together
shot center bearing
autozone special chrome air filter
assortment of dents, bondo, and rust
stolen radio
and a nightmare of twisted together wires held by packing and blue painters tape

she had been neglected most of her life :(

I just hope I can put the heart of one dead bimmer into that of another :devillook and restore the neglect of another with a little TLC

I will post up some pictures of the twins tomorrow hopefully if its not snowing and -8 degrees.

Anyone have pictures of those borbets with a polished lip on a 34?

I'm in the market for new wheels, but I'm fairly new, so I'm not too sure of my options. I always thought those borbets would look insane with a polished lip. 19's are rough on the streets of atlanta.
