I did that in my old 2002, ended up getting another rear cross member. Back when I was young drunk and stupid.

I hate to be the adult - but there are a lot, a LOT of up and coming drift events, SCCA even sanctions some. Try and get to some of the events. Good practice, free advice, and no curbs.

Sucks to hear about it, man. The local yard just got rid of all the E21s or I would offer grabbing one and shipping it for you.

I am going to have an extra rear subframe when I swap this for the dinan one that I have..but not as of yet. I think Ken aka Bowtie on tricord's site has the rear subframe. Or any salvage yard can get them as the 320i and 323i have the same rear subframe. 2002 AD or your nearest salvage yard.

As for selling my 2.8 stroker with knife edged 524td crank - not likely its going in the car, (The 3.0 m20 is in the parts gathering stage)
but I will have an extra 2.3 m20 thats comming out of my 323i soon. You can have this for cheap...
I also have a 200 series eta head for free if you want it.
Its a good core...
I also may have some extra 95 M50 3.0 m3 parts like a block soon as well.

Have I drifted. Nope nothing on purpose.
But one time I was going to take a left to go to Autozone in my 86 jetta.
Its a tricky left into oncoming two lane traffic, and there is an large island there.

I spaced out for a second..cause a car was coming on the other side of the road and BAMM!! I hit the #@$^ curb on the island with the front drivers tire.!!
Holy S**T Batman: OUCH!!!!
Blown tire, tie rods, tranny mount, rim...etc. My front fender took a hard hit too, and its still bent. 900 bucks later, I felt like a real jerk...

I finally have scored a parts car, so both of the fenders of the jetta will be replaced, and the damage will be gone,
but looking at the fender brings back memories. It was one of the worst things I have ever done. So I feel your pain.

I try to be much more careful in the new 03 GTI. I dont want to send my only new car in my life onto a median/island
It goes to show what Steve Fiztgerald told me about racing and stuff on the track.
"all you have to do is just make one mistake. It can cost you your car or your life." And I dont have the money
for real track racing so, with my encounter with the curb, I know how easy it is to wreck on the track.

the closest I've come to drifting was out at my dad's work. He works at the phosphate mines and most of the roads are gravel/clay/sand mixture. Most of the roads are also really twisty, great fun I must say. So we were out there getting some rocks, mud, and sand for our water garden (my mother's project after her dog died). We had 6 buckets full in the back of his all wheel drive Honda CR-V, we figured around 180 lbs. extra on the back end. This was the first time I had driven out there, so I took it slightly slow. There was one straight part that was around a quarter mile long, my dad has taken it up to 75 here, I only went to 45. There is a quick left-right turn onto another short straight, my dad warned me to slow down early "I only take it at about 45, but that's me", so I slowed to 35 and came through very smoothly. I got on the throttle right at the midpoint of the turn and slowly felt the backend begin to come around, so I let off a bit and it came back straight. That's all the drifting I've ever done, but once I get my 320i fixed, I shall return to those roads.:alright

I've done drifting at autocrosses with my car, lots of fun due to the power I have now, but it abuses the hell out of the car, so I try not to do that.

Sorry to hear about your problem. I do have tons of extra parts sitting in my garage if you need parts. I'm looking to get rid of everything I have and will sell everything for pretty cheap prices. I need the space in my garage for other things now. I'm not far from you, so you're welcome to come take a look for stuff you may need.

you starting another project GJ???

I have a few projects that I'm trying to get started on, and I'm hoping that the 3 days I have off this weekend will allow me to get things headed in the right direction.

I have all the suspension components you may need. For the complete trailiing arm ready to bolt in your car and go, how's $100? The only thing I'd recommend would be taking the brakes off and installing yours. Let me know if there are any other parts you may need.

Sure, I know, I remember you coming out to the autocross.

i had a subaru impreza wagon 98 and i was drifting around a wet parking lot and my front went right over a curb. AWD drifting = way fun. left a big hole in the tire and threw off the allignment. not a fun time
