View Full Version : Austin Get Together
Tommy R 12-27-2005, 06:01 PM Anyone else in the greater Austin area interested in meeting up for lunch or dinner? Would be nice to put some faces to the names...
Someplace with plenty of parking is a must. And I'd suggest a weekend. Now let's hear some suggestions on where and when!
Tommy
EDIT- Here's the latest information as of January 9th:
Date: Sunday, January 15th
Time: 12:30 pm
Location: Bone Daddy's on 183/Research

Clifton23 12-31-2005, 01:49 AM so whats the deal? When are we gonna do this?
whonneb 12-31-2005, 10:21 PM yeah, count me in - 28 here
oh sure, wait for me to move out of Austin to finally do this :rolleyes
borealiss 01-02-2006, 06:55 AM got a date in mind? i'm back the 3rd from cali.
Tommy R 01-02-2006, 10:28 AM I'm free on the weekend of the 14th/15th. How about then?
Where would be a good place to meet? I live up north in Cedar Park, but don't mind driving anywhere in the "greater Austin area". :) If anyone from Waco or San Antone comes in, I'm up for altering the location to better suit them.
I don't particularly care where we eat so long as the food is decent and there's plenty of parking. Suggestions?
Tommy
TAMUmpower 01-02-2006, 05:19 PM Im in college station and we dont really have meets over here. I might consider cruzin over there. Might be able to bring a few others.
Baykah 01-02-2006, 05:28 PM Com'on down TAMU.....I wanna see your car and check out that steering wheel conversion.
MB
TAMUmpower 01-02-2006, 05:36 PM I get back from Colorado the 8th and have to install my new Turner chip and #24 injectors with should be at my door before I can get moving.(they will be in the same day)
Patrón 01-02-2006, 10:38 PM Sugar's or ban
I'm in.
Baykah 01-02-2006, 11:13 PM 14th or 15th sound great to me.
Don't know about Sugars.....
MB
Tommy R 01-02-2006, 11:29 PM Yeah, I'm not a titty bar fan personally, but nothing's stopping y'all from going afterward. :)
So we'll confirm the weekend: Jan. 14th/15th. Now we need to decide on lunch or dinner, Sat. or Sun., and a location with reasonably priced food and plenty of parking and group seating.
The Bone Daddy's on 183 has plenty of parking out back, but it can get crowded depending on the time of day. It's also far north for some.
Waterloo Icehouse on Burnet and park across the street?
Fuddrucker's on Anderson Lane or 290/IH35?
Rudy's on 183 (lunch only)?
When we eat will also dictate where we eat so keep that in mind. Also, the car show over the last year or so has moved up north (by me!) at Parmer/1431. If we were to have an early dinner, perhaps some of us could cruise over there afterward? It's not as crowded during the winter, but people still show up.
Let's hear some ideas!
Tommy
TAMUmpower 01-03-2006, 02:35 AM If I do decide to go...im 70/30 % for it, the 14/15 weekend is good for me. I vote no to the stip club if my opinion matters. I keep it clean suckas:cool
littlelee1 01-03-2006, 09:21 AM If its on the 14th or 15th I'll be there. Gotta represent the TAMU crowd :D

Austin Meet:
1. TAMUmpower
Tommy R 01-03-2006, 07:06 PM Better yet, I added a poll to this thread. Everyone interested, please vote.
Another choice for venue is BB Rover's on Jollyville. It's rather north, but has good food, great BEvERage selection, has adequate parking (especially at night/evening), and can seat large groups outside on the patio. Just another thought....
Tommy
M50POWER 01-04-2006, 09:28 AM I just voted:"Hell yeah, I'll be there on the weekend of the 14th/15th! "
TAMUmpower 01-04-2006, 04:00 PM Need yall other guys to sign up at the top.
TAMUmpower 01-04-2006, 04:10 PM Also, I need to turn in hours for work by this friday at 5pm. Can we decide on the 14th or the 15th. I vote for the 14th.
Tommy R 01-04-2006, 04:22 PM The 14th is fine with me. Let's make it so. Good. One more question answered.
Now we only have to figure out dinner or lunch and where. :)
Tommy
SecretAznSauce 01-04-2006, 04:25 PM umm.... your avatar doesnt reflect your current car, I would drive around in circles looking for you

Tommy
Well, lets make it lunch so there is good light for photos. I was kinda wanting to do a line up and take some beauty shots. I know yall mentioned Fudruckers, that style of place is good. I can go for a simple burger joint.
Tommy R 01-04-2006, 04:29 PM umm.... your avatar doesnt reflect your current car, I would drive around in circles looking for you

Good times. I'm up for bone daddy's. Does anybody want to throw out salt lick?
Tommy R 01-05-2006, 10:57 AM Papasito's is good, but may be more than some want to spend. I thought of Salt Lick, but given we may have some people come from out of town, it may make for a bit too much driving in one day.
Is Bone Daddy's even open for lunch on weekends?
Tommy
TAMUmpower 01-05-2006, 12:46 PM Whats bone daddys?
borealiss 01-05-2006, 05:37 PM bone daddy's = bbq hooters, except they're hotter.
TAMUmpower 01-05-2006, 06:54 PM bone daddy's = bbq hooters, except they're hotter.
Sounds good to me, as long as I am not intirely trading food quality for waitress quality. A nice medium is good.
borealiss 01-05-2006, 07:08 PM bone daddy's is good food, don't know about the hours they're open though.
hkrobotics 01-05-2006, 08:26 PM I'll try to make it, but no promises though. Lunch would be a good idea so we can take pictures.
TAMUmpower 01-06-2006, 07:38 PM Dang it. Something has come up and I cant do Saturday Lunch. I probably can make a Saturday dinner or Sunday lunch. But I have somehing I have to be back for Sunday by 5:30.
I doubt im important enough to change the dates up but I thought Id let yall know.
Tommy R 01-06-2006, 07:48 PM I don't particularly care if we make it Sunday lunch or Saturday dinner. Suggestions?
Tommy
singletrack1 01-06-2006, 08:51 PM I'm in for dinner. I'll email frayed. I don't know if he will make it as his M3 hasn't been driven in 6 months - I guess having a new 997S will do that! :D
IMO, bone daddy's has hot women, but the food is so so. The food is better than hooter's though.
If we are going to get so so food for women, how about a tittie bar? I have a VIP at two of the clubs and can get people in for free. Actually, there is no cover during the day.
If we get enough people, I may be able to get the manager to get us something special as a group. It would take 20+ people though.
Bill Kim
borealiss 01-07-2006, 04:50 PM that'd be cool, but i don't think we're going to get 20+ people. i'm up for either hooters or bd's either day.
Clifton23 01-07-2006, 06:52 PM im down for the 14th or 15th.. I think the 15th would be better because I want to spend the 14th drooling at wakeboarding boats at the austin boat show!
Saltlick sounds awesome but if thats too far then bone daddies is good.
TAMUmpower 01-07-2006, 11:36 PM So its lookin like Sunday lunch? I vote Bonedaddy's sice ive never been and its closer apparentlly.
borealiss 01-08-2006, 03:33 AM damn, didn't think of saltlick. i live about 15 minutes from there. bd's sounds fine. so does the 15th.
Tommy R 01-08-2006, 10:13 AM I'll get in touch with BD's and see if they're open for lunch on Sundays. If so, that's what it'll be. If not, we'll go someplace else, but yes plan on lunch on Sunday. One week from today! :)
Tommy
Clifton23 01-08-2006, 09:08 PM sweet bonedaddies is nice! we go there everytime someone has a bday at work!
Ill be bringing my camera/tripod for pics!
Dolemite 01-09-2006, 02:37 AM Sweet, I'm in. Looking forward to it.
Patrón 01-09-2006, 12:23 PM Can someone update

list of folks confirmed?
Tommy R 01-09-2006, 02:42 PM Just confirmed that BD's is open for lunch on Sunday's, so....... Here's the official information. ;)
Date: Sunday, January 15th
Time: 12:30 pm
Location: Bone Daddy's on 183/Research
Map: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?address=11617%20Research%20Blvd.&city=Austin&state=TX&zipcode=78759&country=US&cid=lfmaplink
RSVP via the poll in this thread. I would suggest we meet in the parking lot in the back and walk in as a group so we have an accurate head count for a table. Afterward we can grab some pics outside.
Tommy
Clifton23 01-09-2006, 02:57 PM sounds good! Im gonna get there @ 12:15 or so... Since I live 5 min away.
TAMUmpower 01-09-2006, 04:09 PM Im gonna shoot for being there a little early too since im drivin in 100miles
Patrón 01-09-2006, 05:04 PM I'm in.
borealiss 01-10-2006, 03:00 AM i'm also bringing another friend who lurks in these forums.

TAMUmpower 01-10-2006, 05:16 AM We probably need to get not only a list of cars that are going to be there but how many people are coming in each ride. We should call up Bone Daddys and reserve enough space.

Personally, I think the food at BD's is better than Hooter's....much better, actually. If you're a wings fan, well Hooter's will still be your place, but BD's has some really good burgers and sandwiches. I'd just recommend that you stay away from the chicken fried steak. It tastes like it just got thawed a few minutes before you ordered. And yeah, the fries taste way, way, way too salty and overly seasoned, but I've had worse. I personally like their burger and their brisket sandwich.
Being lunch time on a Sunday, I wouldn't expect their "prime staff" since most are still sleeping it off from their real jobs at Sugar's, Yellow Rose, etc.... ;) But, y'all can go visit them at their night jobs later if that's what you're into. I'll be working on the car. :)

Very true! BD's has great burgers!!! The CFS is decent but just like Tommy said, it tastes like it just was thawed out.
Bone Daddies would be a good place I think, Plenty of parking, and easy to get to. Lets just keep it the same.

Tommy R 01-13-2006, 05:40 PM I don't think we'll have a hard time spotting one another in the parking lot ;) but just in case, I'll be in a black E36 325is. More than likely I'm thinking we'll park in the back lot unless it's completely dead. In that case we can all park in front or the side....or maybe in Razoo's parking lot? We'll just play it by ear I suppose. :)
Tommy
hkrobotics 01-13-2006, 11:39 PM I don't think I can make it to the lunch, but I can meet you guys afterwards in the parking lot.

Yea, I have to work back in College Station at 5:30 so I can really leave no later than 3:30-3:45. I wish I could stay longer...but thats how it goes. Besides, there are actually like 7-8 M3 guys in College station and we are going to try to have a meet sometime in the spring. You Austin guys will have to haul your butts over here for once.
Tommy R 01-14-2006, 03:12 AM Hey, I go to Aggieland pretty often for autocrosses.... :)

Baykah 01-16-2006, 01:28 AM Some of you all were asking about the Dent place that I used. Sean at Austin Dent Magic did a great job on my car. 918-0640 is their # and their address is 7531 Burnet Road.
Mike Eyre at Color Tech is supposed to do a great job on spot paint repair. Dent Magic uses them and a friend of mine recommended them to me as well.
Thanks!
Mike
Tommy R 01-16-2006, 10:47 AM Fun stuff yesterday, y'all. It was nice to put some faces with the (screen) names. ;) I'll talk to Bill Agha about a fender rolling tool rental. I'll see him this Saturday and may be able to get it then. I need to roll the fenders on the black car so the 255's will fit. It's very tentative, but how does Sunday work for y'all? It might be best to just have this "fender rolling party" at my house in Cedar Park since 1) I'll have the tool ;) and 2) I've got pleny of jacks/stands/air tools for everyone. Anyway, I'll ping him and see if it's available.
And thanks to Cliff and Mike for the links on the paint pen and dent removal. I'll definitely be looking into those!
Texas Auto Tops is the upholstery place I mentioned yesterday. They replaced the headliner on my sunroof for $115! And this included removing the sunroof to do the job!!
For y'all interested in autocrossing, just check out spokes.org for info or PM/e-mail me. Also, if anyone is interested in tracking with The Driver's Edge, let me know if you'd like to request me as your instructor. I'm hoping to get back out onto the track this year. :)
Tommy
Clifton23 01-16-2006, 10:56 AM Depends on what time Sunday...
I will be out of town (Corpus) until Sunday. If Sunday becomes the day, I will leave early and get back to Austin by 12-nooner
Tommy R 01-16-2006, 11:16 AM Good news. Looks like it's available this weekend so let's tentatively plan on Sunday at my house in Cedar Park. I'll start a new thread with details....

Clifton23 01-24-2006, 12:08 AM wow... that would be my dream car you have there...
TAMUmpower 02-15-2006, 12:15 AM Just some info. For those that saw my non peeling vanos cover - I just got an email back from the previous owner and he said that the vanos cover had not been repainted. So there ya go, I must have got the magic paint option from the factory...lol I'm curious of how long that stuff will last now.
Baykah 07-03-2006, 12:00 PM When is the next Austin area meet?
MB
frayed 07-03-2006, 12:13 PM I'm definitely down for a meet. I've been out of the bimmer scene for a while, would like to meet some of you. My ltw still hasn't been delivered (long story, and not happy about it) so I'll have to show up in the Pcar.
I'd prefer someplace with beer.
ParadigmGuy 07-03-2006, 10:54 PM Austin? I'd be there, unless I'm out of town.
Tommy R 07-04-2006, 12:16 AM Hey, maybe I'll bring the truck out... ;)
Tommy
borealiss 07-04-2006, 02:46 AM i'd be up for it, after my twinscrew is installed... :devillook

Twinscrew and you're in Austin? :confused
When?
borealiss 07-04-2006, 09:14 PM i live here. so always, i guess.
ParadigmGuy 07-05-2006, 12:49 AM i live here. so always, i guess.
I mean when are you getting a TS installed?
borealiss 07-05-2006, 01:57 AM i just ripped out the maf, intake, throttle body, heat shield, fuel rail, injectors, and intake manifold today. will be getting head gasket done tomorrow, and then pulleys, intercooler, pump, and the supercharger in the next few days.
ParadigmGuy 07-05-2006, 02:04 AM Nice, we should get a video of a BL turbo kit vs. a TS. Is it an AA TS?
So what's the plan? Anyone going to set something up?
Loud_TIGER 07-05-2006, 10:12 PM how about early august?
ParadigmGuy 07-05-2006, 10:49 PM How about mid July? Or a road trip to Houston for that event?
borealiss 07-05-2006, 11:18 PM yes. it's the aa stg 2. i'm sure in raw acceleration the BL kit would win, but it would be interesting to watch nonetheless.
ParadigmGuy 07-05-2006, 11:28 PM Sweet. I'll be doing a clutch job in the next week and have a camcorder, we should definitely get together. You planning on going to the Houston event?
Loud_TIGER 07-06-2006, 02:26 AM are you talking about hot summer nights ( http://forum.bavarianspeed.com/showthread.php?t=7220 ) ?
ParadigmGuy 07-06-2006, 03:06 AM Yep.
Loud_TIGER 07-06-2006, 10:27 AM looks like it's raining for the next 10 days... : (
