TO my surprise I got both xm and an ipod for my christmas and now I am stuck with the daunting task of installing both of these in my car (e39 with DSP). THe xm receiver is a delphi roady2 and I think I'll mount the antenna somewhere on the roof or rear glass. Im sure theres some power wire up front I can tap into as well then I can use the mount included to mount the unit to the right of the steering wheel, possibly right next to the ipod?
The main problem Im facing is hardwiring both into the stock stereo so it sounds great. I have a 6 disk cd changer but with xm and my 60 gig ipod I will probably not miss it if I have to yank it.
FInally for my question, how the hell do I integrate this so that I can hook up both? Is it possible to replace the stock 6 disc changer with the icelink and hook the ipod and the xm up to that using a swithcer? Is anyone out there even familiar with all this? lol. Thanks in advance for the help and if I was unclear about anything let me know.

Thanks man. I'll probably call you up sometime today once I figure out what Im doing. I think Im going out of town tomorrow and I'll be driving around all day today so it shouldnt be too hard for me to come to you if you're free. If not, I can always pick it up in the new year when Im back in town.

Looks like not to many people on here have done this.
THanks to a couple guys in car audio and a dension tech I think I may have found a solution. I plan on getting the dension icelink with the dsp adaptor and a soundgate aux3 switcher. The ipod will obviously be hooked up to the icelink then the xm roady along with the icelink will be hooked up to the switcher which will then be hooked up to thhe dsp adapter which will be tapped into the dsp amp. THis is not going to be cheap, but I think it is the best way to do it.

thanks. Another member in car audio and electonics highly recommended him too so Im definitely going to give him a call when I get back in town.
BTW, I must be crazy because I'm sitting out on my deck up at tahoe in 30 degree weather just to steal my neighbors internet.

I had the same situation a few weeks ago and I just finished installing it this weekend. I have a 2001 540i with DSP and I bought the SDSBMWDSP kit from Soundgate so I could switch between CD Changer, Ipod and Sirius. In theory, it works great but just don't start your car. It is ground loop hell.
The SDSBMWDSP kit comes with a Analog to Digital Converter and the aux3 switcher. After removing and replacing components, I was able to reduce most of the alternator whine by removing the aux3 switcher and adding a Ground Loop Adapter from radio shack. Yes, I know it is like a band-aid, but it works and sounds good. The only problem is that I have to manually unplug and plug in the component I want to listen to. It is kind of a pain in the ass but I could not deal with the alternator whine.
I think that one of the issues is the design of the aux3. The RCA leads are not shielded and the power supply does not appear to be isolated. The biggest issue is grounding all of the different components. Ideally, you want to make sure all of your grounds are at the same point. The problem is that you have 3 sources with potentially different ground. I hard-wired the Sirius, the Ipod is in the cigarette lighter and the CD Changer is on the factory wiring harness. Trying to ground these all from at the same point, is very difficult.
I have not tried the Icelink so I cannot comment on that. The only advice I would give you is to stay away from the aux3 unless you want to re-wire the components. It can be done but it is a lot of work.
Good Luck.

They have been getting quite a bit of snow over the past week, but the snow level has been relatiely high. I havent been out yet, bt everyone I have talked to so far has said conditions up top are awesome, but the bottom of the mountain sucks. I'll let you know what I think after I go tomorrow. :redspot
I can't stand local mountains. I guess I've been spoiled by Tahoe, but I cant do local mountains anymore. If I want to go somewhere quick I'll just go to mammth for a weekend.

New years was alright. We were in the midst of a huge storm so I just staid at the house and hung out with some friends and family who live up there.
You'll have a good time when you go. What mountain do you plan on going to?
