View Full Version : Chrome M parallels
NY550i 12-26-2005, 10:13 PM Im thinking about getting the 18" Chrome M Parallels from wheel exchange.
Anyone know how good the quality of chrome do wheel exchange have?
Lastly, any pictures of the chrome parallels on a black E39?
Im wondering if i should go chrome or silver....i know silver will definately look good but i want a little more eye catching but im skeptical about the chrome not looking good on a black E39.
MaloventEvil 12-26-2005, 10:19 PM silver.

bähnstormer 12-26-2005, 11:11 PM chrome = fugly and heavy and blah
supark 12-26-2005, 11:31 PM just so no to chrome
Hi,
I am gonna say go with the chrome. Chrome looks very good on black i just put some chrome rondell rims on my 528i. I think they are very eye catching but either type will look good.
Just my .0002

NCroadracer 12-26-2005, 11:40 PM Chrome on black is certainly not "rice". Now, add some chrome tint, a gawdy big spoiler and that's rice!
slomofo 12-26-2005, 11:42 PM chrome = fugly and heavy and blah
like the M-Par's were'nt heavy already. if it mattered, he wouldn't even consider those boat anchors.
i'm not a chrome guy usually, but i say go for it, i like the way the look on that black car higher up in the thread.
NCroadracer 12-26-2005, 11:46 PM On a side note.....Non-chrome would also look really good and retain the subtle yet classy look of the BMW.
snaybird1000 12-27-2005, 01:28 AM Chrome on a 760, an Escalade or an S500 would be fine, but on a basic E34 or E39, chrome is way to "pimp" or rice. But, do what you please.

Yes. Silver normal finish = classy.
eric77 12-27-2005, 02:56 AM No go on chrome.

That looks really NICE!
Anyone got any more pictures? How good is the chrome parallels from wheelexchange.com?
Goat128 12-27-2005, 03:02 PM e39 M5 came with chrome wheels.
M-Pars, however, just seem to look better in matte.
NY550i 12-27-2005, 04:34 PM Dammn!
I just called thewheelexchange and they are out of the staggered chrome M parallels.
Any other good companys that carry them?
snaybird1000 12-27-2005, 04:39 PM e39 M5 came with chrome wheels.
Really?
supark 12-27-2005, 06:26 PM Really?
well - technically they're called "shadow chrome" or something similar - looked more like a shiney gunmetal to me.
dy540i 12-29-2005, 12:31 AM Machined finish from www.theWheelExchange is the way to go. Silver is a little dull, chrome is best served on an Escallade or Chrysler 300M. Perserve the beauty of the european styling and avoid chrome on your bimmer.
VaE39 12-29-2005, 12:46 AM How much do the M parallels usually cost? Btw I like silver bc it keeps with the classy theme of a BMW where chrome is a lil too "gangster" but hey they both look nice
supark 12-29-2005, 04:36 AM mine were $698 shipped to my door for a set of 18"x8"s. A staggered setup will cost a bit more.
I just got my m-parallels installed today and I am extremely happy with how well the wheels were packaged. I'd say they're about the same weight as my old OEM style 42s (17")
onewhippedpuppy 12-29-2005, 10:58 AM Hope you don't track it. In many wheels the chrome process weakens the wheel, I've heard many cases of chrome wheels failing on the track, even OE wheels that the owners have had chromed. Of course, replica 18" chrome wheels would be about the worst track wheels ever, so you're probably not going that route.
Silver, all the way, leave the bling to the Escalade and Hummer crowd.

I agree.
NY550i 12-29-2005, 11:47 AM I am now thinking about black face with a chrome lip.
I want a mesh design wheel.
Goat128 12-29-2005, 02:45 PM So why would the e39 m5 come with a non-trackable wheel:
http://www.bmwworld.com/models/e39_m5a.htm
"The M5's 18 in. wheels are aggressive (8.0 in. front, 9.5 in. rear) and are a new Double Spoke design with 10 sets of double spokes, alternating in shape and spacing. Their Chrome Shadow finish is in harmony with the glossy Shadowline exterior trim. Both of these finishes are unique to the M5."
Personally, I like this wheel above almost anything else... I mean a BMW is an expensive car and should have at least a little bling like a mercedes
onewhippedpuppy 12-29-2005, 06:35 PM Many aftermarket or owner chrome jobs are the typical plating, that's what I was referring to. I'm sure an OE, BBS, etc chrome wheel is done with a different process that doesn't weaken the wheel.

Have you ever seen an M5 wheel though? the chrome shadow finish doesn't look anything like your typical chromed out bling wheel - it's more of a very shiny gun metal finish.
