View Full Version : Racing Gloves...Recommendations?
Ben Carufel 12-16-2005, 03:28 PM I need a pair of gloves to take with me to Skip Barber here in a few weeks.
My shoes are G-Force and my helmet is G-Force. I'm happy with their stuff so far.
Are G-Force gloves decent?
Any recommendations?
Thanks!
Ben
Steve J. 12-16-2005, 03:35 PM What kind of glove do you prefer?
Best bet is to go and some on. Some like a short glove, some like a gaunlet, some like no glove... :)
Ben Carufel 12-16-2005, 04:04 PM Skippy requires gloves...99% of the time I prefer no gloves, as they deaden the feel of most things to me (working on cars, car detailing, etc).
Will have to try several on...gotta find a local place that has 'em.
///M3Matt 12-16-2005, 04:14 PM alpine stars f1r gloves :alright
kster 12-16-2005, 04:28 PM Get something with external stitching, I have a Sparco pair which are very comfortable.

Those look pretty nice. They say they have Nomex and fireproof leather -- Sparco doesn't say that they do.

Those have external stitching...and the price isn't terrible...

I just bought a pair of these. I haven't driven with them yet. They feel very comfortable.

Thanks for the feedback Jay.
My thoughts with most things in life (especially camera equipment) are: buy the best once, never "grow out of it". Of course things wear out, but if you buy the best you'll never have to upgrade.
Seems to be how it is with these gloves.
krisko 12-16-2005, 06:07 PM I like the top of the line GForce Kangaroo leather gloves. You already know this but most important is to try the gloves on before buying.
That stitching on the outside thing sounds logical too.
Steve J. 12-16-2005, 06:08 PM Definitely spend a couple extra bucks on safety items...your first priority should be being comfortable.
///M3Matt 12-16-2005, 06:09 PM My old gloves were very similar to those Sparcos. Also very comfortable. Between the 2 I like the Alpine Stars better. And they will wear out and eventually get nappy.
buldogge 12-16-2005, 06:22 PM I use the aforementioned Sparcos as well. They last about 2 full seasons i'm guessing (by the wear so far).
YMMV of course.

What is it about the Alpine Stars that you like more?
///M3Matt 12-16-2005, 06:33 PM They just felt better. Maybe a bit tighter, the sparco ones got loose after some time on them. They alpine stars have stayed the same (size & feel wise). Kinda hard to explain, just personal preference. Both pair are great and would recommend both :D
Ben Carufel 12-16-2005, 11:14 PM Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I stopped by a local retailer and tried the Fast Tech's on tonight. Love 'em. They had 'em in 10 which was a tad too small, so I ordered them from SafeRacer.com in a size 11.
Sweet!

Ditto that! I'm on my second pair of the Sparco "Fast Tech" and I like them a lot. I'd say two full seasons is a pretty good estimate.
1996 328ti 12-17-2005, 12:01 AM This might be silly but if you need to give pointbys, it's best to have gloves that contrast your car. From working corners it was always harder to see pointbys from people who needed to be color coordinated with their car.
Never been to anything other than a DE so I don't know what a Skippy school is like.
Steve J. 12-17-2005, 12:11 AM Its a Performance Driving School, not a drivers education track day.
Its not structured like a DE, its an actual school.

Correct, and it's in Formula cars...so pointbys shouldn't be too much of a problem due to not having much blocking the view from the rear (besides the wing I guess?)...
sawbones 12-17-2005, 03:17 PM Anyone try the Oakley Carbon-X Racing Gloves yet? I think they are relatively new to the market.

sydude 12-18-2005, 06:14 PM I've used lots of gloves, and the best glove is the Sparco X-Pro. Second best (and second only because of its wear characteristics) is the OMP Gran Premio glove. Both expensive, yes, but head and shoulders above the rest.
Thursday1999 12-18-2005, 06:24 PM +1 on the Alpinestars F1's, i use em for my track days, very cool glove
StuddMan 12-18-2005, 11:40 PM I use the AlpineStars F1-T. Great feel and look bad ass. :alright
jdmorris 12-19-2005, 02:23 AM I also agree on the Alpinestars. However, it's mostly a matter of fit and the Alpinestars fit me better than any other glove I've tried. I have a pair of G-Force karting gloves that also fit well and don't have external stitching or any fancy features. I don't have any complaints about them even after hours of non-stop use. Just make sure to try before you buy.
ChevelleRyan 12-19-2005, 02:33 AM I'm getting a pair of BMW M driving gloves for x-mas. They are only 25 bucks and they're very nice. They arent acceptable gloves for track days though. They're just for cruisin
Ben Carufel 12-19-2005, 02:38 AM I already ordered the Sparco Fast Tech's on Friday. Tried on a pair of 10's and found them to be incredibly comfortable, but a TAD too small. Ordered 11's.
The external stitching made a HUGE difference.
TAMUmpower 12-19-2005, 02:39 AM Get the ///M striped leather gloves out of the Lifestyle catalog. I know im gettin some, o yea....pure performance.....:redspot :stickoutt
