Well, just like what happened to dallasboy.. the '02 M3 SMGII with a production date of 11/01 has finally took a dump on my dad and I.
It was knocking really loud and oil temp. was going to the 3/4 mark.
M3 is now at Century West BMW. I dont know if BMW would want me to drop the oil pan, order an engine, or send the DME for interogation.
Will keep you guys updated!
ouch! sorry to hear that.
please keep us updated and good luck!
Sorry Jon. Didn't you just mention you were doing OK with yours, like a couple days ago? Hopefully they'll at least get you a loaner. Do you get to work on your own car?

ouch... good luck with it. I thought BMW offered a statement a while ago that said if the engine exhibits certain symptoms they should just pull it and ship it out.

Hmmm. My 10/01 6 speed just turned 17k miles. I keep thinking I'm out of the woods, but maybe I shouldn't speak too soon...

Jon,
Good thing you beat the hell out of the car before the engine blew. I regret not giving mine the full diesel treatment prior to the blowing.
I wonder if the VIN they issue with the new engine will require re-registration?
I supposedly get my car back tomorrow so I'll hopefully the answer will be apparent in a short while.

Getting fault codes. The M3 had intake and exhaust VANOS faults and knocking as well.

Looks like we have a burned up connecting rod cap on #3.

stupid question... but I guess I'm uninformed.. If you take your m3 engine apart, won't that void the warranty??

Sorry to hear we lost another Jon, an SMG no less.
Could you snap a few pics of the crank pin and the Main journal where #3 gets its oil and the bearings too please?
Did you ever decide on a driveshaft? (I voted Al... C scares me:az: )
