Hey guys just wanted to know if anybody else has this problem, I use the belkin car adapter with my ipod. I get alternator whine though when I have it plugged in, when I just play the ipod on its batteries the problem goes away so its coming through the cigarret lighter. My freind has the same problem with his. I was wondering if there is a circuit we can build to filter out this noise like throwing a couple capaciters in before we power the car adapter, or has anybody else done anything special to fix this problem. Thanks ive searched and all the alternator whine problems seem to be talking about the actual head unit all the time. I only get this with the ipod from the car adapter, the rest of the time the stero works great.

The typical cuase of this is a ground loop if you are using a direct connection or cassette adapter, and poor power filtering if you are using an FM modulator. You can try the power filtering in the firwst case, but it's more likely the ground loop. You can try improving the cig lighter ground... but the best solution is to get an Icelink and ace the Belkin.

ice link eh, so thats the ticket. Hum Ill have to look into that for sure, i wonder if it works with the BMW traffic pro? aiight thanks for the input. Do you think If I pulled a ground straight from the battery that it would improve the ground loop? Just curious.

Icelink makes a becker version that works with the traffic pro. $200. We sell them...
No, just ground the HU and the cig adapter to the same point . That's help. You want the two to have th same ground. B they never do with cassette adapters.

Who is we? Have a link? And what does the icelink let you do then? Just show the song name on the head unit ? Can I still control the IPOD through the ipod. My GF has the BMW ipod thing and you have to control the ipod through the head unit. ITs horrible cause the ipod has the best interface to manage the amount of songs that are on there. The head unit just takes forever to get something you want an you have to make these stupid playlists for stuff. I also have sattelite radio now, can I switch between the icelink and the aux input or does the icelink use the aux and thats the only thing I can use on the aux input after I put the icelink in. OR could I put an audio switch to flip between the two? Thanks for the info.
