well i have a 1994 318is with the non good factory sounding system

So i install my big CDA motorized flipout alpine cd player
Infinity refrence 5.25s in the kick pannels, 3.5 tweets in the doors and 4x6 plates in the rear(4" speaker and tweet on the side)

In the rear i have
Kicker solo beric L7 10" wired to 2ohm
Rockford Punch 800a2 wired mono and birth sheet of 1006rmw watts
Lastly a Phoenix gold 1 fariad cap

anyways when i've got me decks bass at 50% precent and punch button at 50% precent and i start pounding hard going down the highway@85 people will move over a lane becasue them think i am a cop by the way my headlights flash

hell i couldnt even give it 25% deck power without sucking juice down

even worse...my fuel economy has gone way down and i can feel the alt dragging on the engine

Is that the alt or needing bigger cap?

I turned the deck sub control to 1below maxx and tunred sub way down and it hits pretty damn good and dosnt draw battery as much, while sounding good

however i like to feel my guts being shaken within me, and would prefer to have my system louder

anyways ideas would be nice

few things.......................
#1: try to get to a mechanic or an alternator shop and have them test it out, before you spend any money

#2: you're running an 800a2 at 2ohms feeding 1006 watts continous, now I know it wont always do that, probably not even close unless you constantly have one of those Miami Bass cd's in the headunit or changer but still that's gotta be somewhere in the ballpark of 80-90 amperes it's pulling, that would give any alternator a problem, especially if you consider all of the other things the alternator is needed for in a bimmer (really any vehicle)

LOL, well what the heck did you put that out there for if you aren't gonna do 1006 watts????????

seriously, let us know what the mechanic says, and they do make high output alternators, they just cost a grip, I seriously doubt you'd need more than 2 farads but I could be wrong, either way I saw an ebay store selling a Clif Designs 15 farad capacitor unit for $136 (I think it was $136) I just don't know how good Clif Designs products are............

If you want to upgrade, get the Bosch 140.

Clif has everything made in China, but they are basically decent stuff. I think the cap you saw was a 10F design and you have to wonder why they are trying to liquidate it everywhere.

But look at the size: 3" H x 11" W x 15.25" L !! That could be why...
