Also, the e34 v8 also has a plastic thermostat housing

Only if I had found this thread 1yr ago I probably wouldn't be changing my engine......water pump went out and my wife drove it home and warped the head.....

none of the links seem to get me to the check list, any ideas would be great I have a few cars but no 5s looking at one, but looking for some problem spots to inspect.

I would also add that in area's that have hot summers, if some one finds a good deal on an overheated car. It usually means a cracked head, not a head gasket.
I have parted out 3 e34s that were getting water in the oil in the past year. All have been a cracked head VS a headgasket.

I figured it might be helpful since the Bentley doesn't do a good job explaining.

Water pooled under car, driver's side toward firewall. Radiator & Thermostat & Water Pump 4 mos old and 2500 miles already. No problem before yesterday. No overheating, no blown or cracked hoses, (that I can see), no apparent leaks. What are three hoses going thru firewall? One appears to be compromised at the boot. HEEELLLLPPPPPP please

My money is on the heater valve. We have seen 6 fail in the last few weeks on v8 cars.
