Hey Guys,

In my '96 328i I think there might be something wrong with the speaker. It sounds fine, but often times when i go over bumps or brake sharply it makes sort of a crackling/rattling noise. When i turn off the radio, the noise seems to go away..

Anyone experience this type of issue? This is a non-HK system. How much would the replacement speakers cost, or would it be more worth it to upgrade the speakers while I'm at it.. and if that's the case, any recommendations? I'm on a low budget :)

Thanks alot guys...

It sounds like you have a loose speaker terminal connection. Listen to the system with the car parked and the system turned up. See if it still makes a crackling sound.

I've tried that. No noise unless theres a bumpy road or i'm braking fairly hard.

Sounds like loose or broken wire. Could be a problem with the amp too. You could try banging around the speaker and/or amp to try to recreate the problem.

I tried banging it but can't recreate. I took off the door panel and drove around with just the two speakers plugged in and hanging down... and i couldn't duplicate it either... Put the panel back and started driving. No noise at first, but on the freeway when i run over the lane dividers (the plastic reflector light thingies) it makes the noise... but when i turn off the radio it doesn't. When i took off the panel i looked for lose wiring and couldn't really see anything.

*shrug* I'll have to open the panel again ad take a look.

Could also be the connector that sandwiches the door frame beside the dash area.
