I heard that Audi was redesigning and refining their 03 S4. I went to audiusa.com and looked at their S4 02 specs. It seems to me that Audi engineering is ahead of BMW.
I dont know much about cars but their maximum torque rate and HP rate seem to be better than BMW..
Please correct me if im wrong...

S4--------------------------M3
250 HP @ 5800rpm ------- 333 HP @7900rpm

Isnt 7900rpm alittle late for reaching maximum HP??

258 lb.-ft. @ 1850RPM ------- 262 lb.-ft. @ 4900RPM

Again, Audi reaches their max torque at a much lower rpm. Isnt that better?

After reviewing these specs, i strongly believe that their refined 03 model will surpass BMW's M3 in every aspect - especially if Audi is going to impliment SMG..
What do you think??

I hope not - im BMW for eva!

There will always be a bigger badder dog on the block... If you think about it... all Audi had to do was wait for the '01 M3 to come out back in 2001. They probably bought one of the first cars gave it to their technicians to pull apart and two years later they are going to try and release a car that will beat the M3. Which is fine, after all... the M3 design is now two years old... if they can't beat a two year old car... something is wrong.

Back to the specifics...

The Audi will make power earlier... that's the nature of the turbo charged beast. The M3 does make power at higher RPMs, but that how a non-turbo engine works. But think about it this way, the Audi redline is probably low... maybe 6500-7000rpm. When he's shifting... you are just reaching your max HP... so you get a major gain on him.

I would also imagine that an 8,000rpm redline gives you longer legs too.

Also, the S4 is based on the A4...family car platform.

It took the last S4 4 years to beat the E36 M3 when it was already discountinued...I'm not worried.

besides, most audi/vw owners do not hook up their cars, they're bean counters and soccer moms.

Yayyyy Audi. :biglaughb

Plus if memory serves me correctly the '99 M3 was only slightly faster than the '02 S4... but, the M3 could hand the S4 it's ass in the corners. The S4 was a pig and extremely heavy from what I understand.

0 to 60 5.9 seconds, 3,600 pounds. The web site doesn't indicate if the 3,600 is dry weight no passenger or not. M3 is 3400 something with full tank and 1 passenger. My experience with S4s on the track are that they are very nice cars but better suited to fast highway cruising as opposed to performance on a track. On a track they are not in the same class as the M3.

Incidentally, Hans Stuck, Bill Auberlen, and Alan McNish all disagree with you on that one.

if I recall correctly. With the original E36 M3 SMG, 7 of 10 BMW test drivers where faster on a road course then on the traditional manual.
