I own a 1993 525i with an automatic trans, and 161k miles. Bone stock, and it has been very well taken care of. I recently got rear ended while sitting still, the other driver was going about 35 mph he said, and just drifted into the turning lane and hit me dead on. I got the car back from the shop about a month later, it looked great, they did an excellent job piecing her back together and painting it. But ever since I got it back it has been leaking transmission fluid at a pretty quick rate, if your going slow you can see a trail behind you. I called the insurance company and they said to take it in the shop, and theyll pay if it is proved accident related. To avoid the costs, i changed the both pan gaskets and changed the filter. It still leaks, the rear seal is dry, and from looking up in the check spot on the bellhousing, it looks dry in there, so i think that rules out the input shaft. It is leaking somewhere in front of the pans though, and i have no idea where from. I wanted to get some other opinions on where it could be coming from, and if it could have been caused by getting hit. If it helps any, it is a GM transmission in it. Thanks alot in advance, I hope you guys can help me out again, your last advice given was invaluable to me, and saved me alot of money.

It's common for those transmissions to leak at the gasket between the torque converter housing and the case, although usually not that badly. It's probably coincidence it happened after the collision repair. It would be hard to prove otherwise.

Thanks alot for your input on my problem. I'd imagine that would be Alot of labor to do. Which mean alot of labor I'd have to pay for if i take the risk of trying to claim it. I guess I'll probably just do it myself when i have the time. If it is coming from there, where would i see the fluid laying? It lays on a crossmember that is infront of the joint between the bellhousing and trans case.
