Is there a way to reset the 5 green service lights the other way. I have a service contract and would like one more service before my contract runs out but all my lights will not be out by then and bmw will not service unless the car is in the yellow zone. How do I get rid of the remaining green lights and get it into yellow zone. Thanks

Drive a lot at high rpm and or high speed. A good weekend or two at the track will yield 6-8mpg and run through the lights pretty quickly.

The service lights are a function of fuel consumed, not of mileage. So anything that burns fuel at an acelerated rate will extinguish green bars pretty quickly.

I heard the lights were calculated by the mileage multiplied by a factor of the time at rpms over 5000 and how long engine under normal operating temp. So if that's correct, every time you start your car, drive at5000+ rpms until it warms up.

LOL - then go buy a new car...

I've read it somewhere (maybe in the Bentley) that the service indicators are driven solely by fuel consumption.

It is sounding like getting a free service could end up costing you more then its wroth. If it is just the gas consumpion thing, I wonder how the sensor works that tells your car how much gas it has consumed. Could you fill it up, sifen (spelling is most deffinitely incorrect) it out and repeat? How else would it know how much gas you have gone thru other then the number of times the sending unit float goes up and down?

The service indicator computes mainteneance on mileage, engine speed, engine temperature, number of starts, and length of trips so drive the hell out of your car and you will get what you want.

I'm with the others...the Service Interval lights extinguish according to driving habits...not fuel consumption alone.
