When the 2006 m5s come out soon the price on other m5s will drop by 10 to 15 percent. As history show always happens. Prices have held because there has not been a replacement. wait and see.

Prices have held because there has not been a replacement. wait and see. Did you just realize this? :rolleyes 2000 M5s are already hovering in the 30-32k range. I think they will drop to the 25-26k range in 12-18 months. As already mentioned; E26/E34 M5s will not see any drop in value. DarthMaul 11-28-2005, 09:32 PM hmmm the only problem is that a lot of the M5s out there seem to have a TON of mileage already (probably because they are daily drivers). seems like the ancient M5s (E28, E34) have not too many more miles on them (usually 100-150K) and for a 14 year old car (or more) that's not too bad. i've seen a bunch of M5s out there with well over 80K. is that good or bad? this new "carbon buildup" issue is rasing some questions.... sirtiger 11-28-2005, 10:12 PM lets not forget the pricey maint. due....it is factored in the resale value Mblaster 11-29-2005, 01:40 AM E39's may have more ponys but E34's are more fun and a helluva lot easier to work on.:buttrock onewhippedpuppy 11-29-2005, 10:21 AM That applies to everything, not just M5s or BMWs. Everybody wants to look like they have a brand new car. From an enthusiast's standpoint, the E34 M5 just seems more "special". Maybe it's the handbuilding, it just seems like a rare classic, while the E39 M5 seems more mass produced, which it is. Not that I would ever turn one down, they are amazing cars, but if given the choice between E34 and E39, it would be difficult. Also, as BF said the E28s and E34s have hit rock bottom from a price standpoint. I wouldn't be suprised to see the price eventually increase for nice ones, as they become older and more scarce. No car is ever an investment, but you might lose less on a E34 M5. skateparks 11-29-2005, 10:33 AM I think they will drop to the 25-26k range in 12-18 months. :redspot Johnny 5 11-29-2005, 12:28 PM My friend's '00 is his daily with about 80k on it. The SES light came one. It runs fine, so it must be the carbon. Anyway, he's a professional and doesnt take good care of it. Airport car washes, mismatched tires, the interior was redyed and there has been an XM radio screwed down to the leather dash. Even with the mods, I would put it below 30k. It had the entire nav system replaced too, which is scary. He is going to sell or trade it in next year around october for the '07 M5. He wants the 6 speed and he also doesnt want to get screwed out of options like he did on the '00. I'm thinking in a year the dealership will offer him around 14k for trade-in. fourwhls 11-29-2005, 02:25 PM There's a 2000 with 79k mis on ebay right now with a BIN of 28,777. The prices are already coming down. No affiliation MP525i 11-29-2005, 03:26 PM E39's may have more ponys but E34's are more fun and a helluva lot easier to work on.:buttrock true but even with the recent problems with the e39's, i'm still under the impression that the e34 m5's i6 is still very problematic by comparison. *this is the impression from when i wanted one and everyone said they are a pain to maintain (which is why i went with the e36 m3). all m5's are great though. -mike skateparks 11-29-2005, 04:20 PM the e34 m5's i6 is still very problematic by comparison. True, but with far fewer computers involved thus much easier maint. than an '00 or the like. The S28 just needs TLC and can be problematic if neglected but can be maintained fairly easily...especially copmpared to the newer cars. SpecRaceM5 11-29-2005, 05:09 PM true but even with the recent problems with the e39's, i'm still under the impression that the e34 m5's i6 is still very problematic by comparison. *this is the impression from when i wanted one and everyone said they are a pain to maintain (which is why i went with the e36 m3). all m5's are great though. -mike I wouldnt say it is problematic, it is just expensive to maintain. Some parts can be very espensive for it. Although it all depends on how you go about replacing them. My transmission rebuild is going to cost me a little bit more then the one I had on my automatic 92 ford explorer. But I got my explorer transmission rebuilt by AAMCO which was a mistake. I also think the whole "pain to maintain" thing comes from their age. They are old cars so alot of things start to fail. But the e39's are catching up in miles as DarthMaul stated. I think the millage on the average e34 m5 sits at low to mid 100k because at that point there are a bunch of little things that need to be replaced and instead of fixing them, people get rid of them and get e39 m5's or something else. Also, like skateparks and Mblaster stated, teh e34 is alot less complicated, as it doesnot have all the electronics the e39 m5 has. This would usualy make it less problematic, and easier to work on then the e39. I think as more e39 m5's get into the 100k-150k range, we will start to see a dramatic drop in value to probably what the e34 m5 is at. This will be similar to the e30 m3 being about the same prices as the e36 m3. The only difference will be the price tag to fix the m5's vs. the m3's Just my 2 cents. Tvan 11-29-2005, 05:26 PM My dad's '01 is a daily driver, and has 32k on the odo. He bought it 3 years ago with 12k already on it. It would be one of those with 80k+ on the odo if he drove to Chicago, but instead his drive is just to the train station and back, about 3 miles round-trip. With a Porsche C4S set in his sights, and this friend called "depreciation," maybe the M5 will belong to me someday... And anyone who's driven an e39 M5 knows that it's worth every penny. With 400 horses pulling me along, I never have time to think about whether it's a 'rare classic' or not. |
