View Full Version : WTB locally / Anyone doing an S50 swap this Xmas?
I am looking for...
S50 crank (rods optional)
complete M20 motor (i only)
or
just an i head and intake manifold
(with or without the injectors and harness and stuff)
318i/M42 Transmission. I know, fat chance. But still, if you have one let me know.
Any alloy wheels for e30s. 14s would be good. (No tires.)
If anybody is selling any e30 camber plates, I might be interested also.
Also, I need a truck. Minimum 5500lb towing capacity, prefer a domestic V8 pickup with an auto and 2WD. Low budget, high miles, old work truck kinda thing. I see them on craigslist all the time, but I figure I might try here first.
:buttrock
Just post here or PM me your BEST offers, I don't really want to haggle over this stuff.
Matt
techno550 11-28-2005, 10:00 PM I have a bunch of M20 parts, including a complete i head. I have an i block, super eta complete bottom end, and a bunch of random other M20 bits.
probably have an M20 oil pan or two around as well.
so... whatcha building? wanna come rummage through my M20 "scrap heap"?
G. P. Burdell 11-28-2005, 10:04 PM so... whatcha building?
Isn't it obvious? Matt's building an M20-powered pickup truck. :buttrock
e9nine 11-28-2005, 10:50 PM ..Matt your whole thing added up till I saw the m42 tranny request, where does that fit in the pic?
There's an m20 in NC that is kinda fresh with t.belt etc. It just needs a rear seal or headgasket (dude said it was leaking a bit of oil) for $450 or so. Let me know if you're interested and I'll pass the dude's info to you. I think I saw an m42 trans for sale somewhere...I'll post here if I find the post. There's a cheap whole m42 car with tranny and motor on autotrader as well if you want to try haggle the dude (it's been listed for a while).

:rofl
Yup. :buttrock
I am getting serious about my 2002's motor. I've figured out that if I want to be fast, I'm going to need a lot more spring in my step. A built M20 should do it.
I just made an offer on an S50 crank, so disregard that.
Matt
techno550 11-28-2005, 11:04 PM I have a complete M20 super eta bottom end. Thats a 2.7L 8.5:1 CR stock. Deck the head or block a bit and raise the compression, then spin it to 7k, and it'll make decent power.
Or better yet, turbo it. :devillook The motor that is currently in my 525 makes it *quick*. (just ask anyone thats been for a ride.) I can only imagine what it'd do in a 2002. (or should that be "what it'd do TO a 2002" :stickoutt )
What are the odds on a 2002 shell holding together whilst putting ~300 ft-lbs of torque to the rear wheels?
hey, you said something about wanting to be fast. turbo M20 (or M50) would make for a fast 02.

I will pass on that M20. I am more looking for parts. The M42 tranny is rumored to bolt up to M20s, but be smaller to fit a 2002 tranny tunnel. I know I am building a monster here, but I am putting it in a 2000lb 2002 so I figure the tranny won't be all that stressed.
Michael, I would like to come check out your parts. If we can work out something reasonable, I'll probably at least take the head. I actually have a set of superETA rods and pistons sitting at home in a box. If you want, PM me with some times you're available and directions to your shop. I'm excited to see it... I've heard some crazy stuff.
I am planning to send the head out to one of those porting places in the back of GRM where it's $400 or something flat rate for any 6cyl. Think that's a good idea? I have no experience doing it myself, and I have no intention of paying $1000 for a real engine builder to do it.
I want to stick with NA because it'll keep the power reasonable. The last thing I need at this point is to be able to turn the boost up on an M20. I will boost the motor to oblivion and probably kill myself in the process. Also, I am already building a turbo 325 with wreck racing, so I'd like to go another way with my own. Plus, plumbing this car would be a bitch. It's already going to be a pain in my ass putting a big enough radiator in the nose.

So the standard M20 trans won't fit the tunnel?

I dunno if it will be this week. With PRI coming up mid week I'm fairly slammed.

I'd just port match it myself. match the head to the gasket, then the manifolds to that same gasket. Thats "most" of it right there. Then just clean up any obvious bad bits. I wouldn't go nuts with that as that money is much better spent elsewhere. (cam?)
Speaking of cam, whats your plan there? I think its the early 323 cam that is the "hot" one.

The fun part about boosting an M20 is the head gasket is the weak point.... and they are like $15 a piece. if its already studded, blowing one means your out $15 and about 5 hours of your saturday morning. I've grabbed breakfast on my way out to the parking deck, changed the gasket, and then drove the car to lunch... at least once. :devillook
why not just turbo the M10 that came in the '02?

Don't worry about it. I have nothing but time. In fact, if I could pay you for the parts in time, that would be great. :stickoutt
I want an M20 because of the sexy straight 6 sound. I love turbo cars, but I don't want to own one right now. I'm pretty sure it's 6 of one half dozen of the other as far as performance and cost, but man do I ever love that six cylinder noise. Like you said, I can always turbo it. Well, scratch that because my compression ratio will be 12:1 probably, but nothing is permanent.
I haven't thought about a cam, actually. I have been keeping an eye on the g/b boards for a buy on some aftermarket ones, but nothing worthwhile has come along. If the hot cam is an available BMW part, all the better. :devillook
No, the regular M20 tranny is a MONSTER. I would have to redo the whole tunnel from the firewall to the shifter. The other option is an e21 323i 4 or 5 speed, but they are rare and thus worth something.

jokestar 11-29-2005, 12:14 AM i have a set of 4 basket weaves (they have tires, but useless) if u want them for $50 or a set of 4 borbets (1 is wrecked, maybe fixable by a shop) if you are interested in either, pm me
kchildre 11-29-2005, 11:19 PM I have both an M50 Block and Head available if you wanted to give any of it a shot... The block is in snellville & the head is in my basement. Just looking to get them out of my hands...
Thanks but that motor won't fit. And even if it will, I'm not wiring it up.

Hum what condition are they in?

I'm not on the forums very often anymore, so if you want to e-mail me at kchildre@mindspring.com, I can give you some more information on the block / head that I have.
