How do I know for sure whether my '92 325i has real leather, or the fake stuff? I'm thinking it might be fake because I tried to clean it with Lexol, but it didn't foam up too much and didnt seem to make a difference. Then I accidentally got some vinylex on it and was wiping it up and it seemed to take off a layer of grime and seem generally cleaner. I continued to clean all the seats with vinylex, but they still seem kinda dirty.
If they are real leather, will vinylex hurt them? Also, there are what look like cracks on the bolsters, but you can't really feel them. Is there a way to get rid of them? And one more question, if my seats are the fake stuff, can I assume that my steering wheel is not real leather also, and therefore use vinylex to clean it also? Any suggestions?

If you can't find the original dealer sticker, someone at (1) your local BMW dealership or (2) BMW of North America should be able to tell you what equipment and options your car had when it left the factory. Have your VIN ready when you call.

If you find out that the seats are leather, give them a good cleaning with Lexol-pH (the stuff that comes in the orange bottle) and then apply Lexol Leather Conditioner (the stuff that comes in the brown bottle).

I wouldn't use Vinylex on leather. I'm pretty sure that vinyl and other synthetic materials need a different kind of "food" than natural materials like leather.

Thanks. Why didn't I think of that? I called the dealer they told me I had leather parchment. Well, I hope vinylex wont hurt them, because I sprayed that stuff all over them. It did seem to clean them better than the lexol ph stuff. Oh well.
