while researching local indy's I found this article on one's site:
"BMW V8 OWNER'S:
Have you ever had your engine's oil pump
checked for loose bolts? We have found about
80% of the cars we have serviced, had bolts in the oil
pan or loose bolts ready to fall into pan. This can
cause oil pump damage and engine damage.
We suggest doing this at your next oil change, before
you have a problem."
has anyone ever run into this?

Not bolts, but oil pump nut is an oft discussed topic on BFc.

The loose oil pan bolts were on the M60 engine, which has been out of production for a decade now. The problem was resolved by redesigning the gasket.
On the other hand, a problem common to both M60 and M62 is the bolts holding the oil pump together loosen. Also, the bolts fastening the pump to the block can loosen. Those are the most common cause of noisy lifters on a V8. I've not encountered any loose sprocket nuts.

I called the shop & that is exactly what they said, they quoted my 140.00 to check the bolts & do an oil change since they would have to drain it anyway...seems like a good deal

That's exactly what the original post said, and for some reason I read it to mean oil pan bolts, probably because in the bad old days they used to fall out too.
$140 is a good price for that service.
