View Full Version : does it count if i dont have a BMW?
shaneco13 11-28-2005, 12:21 AM haha, sorry if i dont have one, but anyways. i have a kill from back in the midst of fall. i was driving on the highway (in my turbocharged VR6 Jetta 12v) heading to meet one of my buddys off yonder.
along came this new body style Trans AM. this dude like rode my ass so i was like "well, alright then". so he gets next to me and guns it. well i do too and i just take off on him. i mean seriously it was not a contest. he DID have like 2 other guys in his car at the time so i dont think it was entirely fair since it was just me in the car, but oh well.
cool guy to say the least, cause he followed me and proceeded to tell me its the fastest jetta hes ever seen (and it turns out they had a video camera and were taping, lol). he was like "that is no ordinary 2.0" then i told him its cause the car is a 6 cylinder, lol.
so yep......i am slowly easing toward getting a BMW if that is any better.
Antrieb 11-28-2005, 12:39 AM yes, it is
shaneco13 11-28-2005, 02:52 AM haha, thats what i figured. its fun to surprise people though!

Yes, BMW's are "better" in a few ways.
But think of them as "German Hondas" (refined, smooth, and very efficient mechanicals, but not as overengineered) vs VW, Audi, and Porsche which can be considered "German Toyotas" (tougher mechanicals but less refined and less efficiency).
BMW's almost always handle and brake better than VW's (I say ALMOST ALWAYS because the winner of the Euro Import Challenge was a VW, not a BMW), but as far as bolt-ons.............
Be prepared to upgrade pistons, rods, etc, etc, etc if you wanna seriously boost one.
There are many different examples (maybe not in this forum) of many VW and Audi 1.8t cars with BOLT-ONS that kill e46 M3's, e39 M5's, and even the new e60 M5.
But BMW's are not about stoplight races.
You can build them that way, but it's not cheap.
That goal can be accomplished for a lot less $ with many different Audi or VW models for a lot less $ (if you insist on a German car). In domestic terms, why spend $20k modifying a Cadillac, when you can have a faster Mustang for $5k.
BMW's are built for pure driving satisfaction, and in that category, only certain Porsches have them beat.
shaneco13 11-28-2005, 03:02 AM ya. i just like the class and comfort factor being much higher than as apposed to VW. but ya right now i am probably at like 250whp (7 or so psi). i got forged postons, witht a T3/T4 , 60 trim set up on my VR6 now. i just have to get bigger injectors/ software to run the boost up (11-12psi), and get it over 300whp. but its fwd which kinda sucks, lol.
widm3r 11-29-2005, 10:42 PM Yeah, i wanted to take my moms train car which is a vw bug, and drop a vr6-t setup in it cause it would just be extremely funny

I read the kills section for posts like this. This logic is baffling. Wealth of knowledge here. Your analogies are very insightful. Great points. BAN!
