Just replaced rear brakes and lining sensor on 2000 740iL. Battery was disconnected. Now, operation of climate control is faulty. The "Max AC"
control never works, the green indicators on the buttons vary in intensity,
and the sender for the garage door opener works sporadically. When the
indicator lights are bright, all is well in the universe. When the lights are
dim, its hard to seeand the functions seem to be OK, but the door opener
is dead. Any ideas.

have you checked the condition of your battery. if you've never replaced it yet...and you are getting strange electronic gremlins...it usually indicates a failing battery.

If you've unlocked your OBC you can do a TEST # 9 to get a reading...with the car not running (ignition in position 1 or 2) the battery should read between 11.5v-12.5v. If it reads consistently between 10.5v-11.5v...your battery is dying and you should consider replacing it very soon!
