View Full Version : Anybody have a good S52 bottom end (or whole motor)vfor sale?
Like the subject says, I need a good bottom end for a 3.2 M3 motor.
I was in the mountains yesterday, and lost all compression on cyl. 5. It's full of oil and the intake valves are clean. :(
As the saying goes....
Gotta pay to play.
PM me if you know of anyone who has one from an over-rev or...?
I already talked to Bobby at Strictly, and he only has complete motors...

aMiR M3 11-27-2005, 04:44 AM and this is why Amir is out of the FI world!
Sorry to hear though...
Yeah. but it's too much fun to let go of.. And yeah Kevin, I'm happy for Ian but I'm really pissed I sold and installed that motor 3 days before this shit happened! I would have swapped my head gasket over and been on my way!
I'm going to pull the head today, and I'll post up pics of the damage later.
techno550 11-27-2005, 11:33 AM I still see FI as more reliable than high strung NA engines. Especially at similar power levels.

A 450 Hp NA S52 would be something to see...
Actually I have seen some high HP BMW sixes, at PTG. They last 40 hours and get rebuilt to the tune of $20k.
Bret, I'm sorry to hear about this, but if anybody can get it fixed right and quick, it's you.
Matt
S52Mcoupe 11-27-2005, 06:16 PM im tellin ya part another wrecked one... youll prolly come out the best
You're probably right Kevin, but that would take way too long. I'm most concerned with what caused this damage first.

S52Mcoupe 11-27-2005, 08:37 PM that looks like a bad rod bearing or something i dont think tunning or mixture or n e thing like that hadda factor. it was rich tho so theres a chance that that could have been detonation who knows man
Bearings were OK. Not stellar as it was a high miles motor, but they weren't trashed by any means...
Robstah 11-27-2005, 08:45 PM Bret, are you selling the crank? I am looking to stroke an M50 (possibly non-vanos) to a 2.9 and I am looking for the crank and possibly some cams.
S52Mcoupe 11-27-2005, 08:47 PM rob i think we can sell you ians crank and cams outta his M50... hes outta town not sure what he wants for them. also do you plan on doing obd1 conversion on your car?

You mean his S50? :D My car is OBDI. It's a 93. If I go with the non-vanos M50 from my source, then it will be 92, which is also OBDI. The last thing I am doing is spending 700 on a chip from AA for tuning of the 2.9 though. I am doing all that by myself, no matter how much I have to work with it. It maybe worth investing in a piggyback or standalone system, because I am looking at FI after the fact, if possible.
Robstah 11-27-2005, 09:00 PM Also, I'm not 100% sure, but the S52 crank can work in the M50 and it is also forged compared to the S50. So, the S52 crank would be a better option.
S52Mcoupe 11-27-2005, 09:00 PM i thought 95 M3's were M50's and 96-99 were S52's
Robstah 11-27-2005, 09:03 PM Technically, yes. M50B30US, but it is known as the S50 US engine.

no titty boy..you know its known here as the S50. I've said that abillion times. hah
Bret-This sucks, sorry about what happend and THANK YOU for your motor and putting it in for me! but...anyway your built motor should be worth it. Will this built motor mean higher psi???
Rob P/M me if you are interested in S50B30 Cams and possibly crank... When you know what you want to do
tokenasianguy69 11-28-2005, 07:57 PM hey just letting you know my friend sold bobby his m3. so bobby does have one, but i'm not sure what he's doing with it. Its a 94 325is, that had and s50, then that got blown. Then he bought a sketchy s52 and it was crapped out. so bobby and them put a new head on it, and it still doesn't work properly so that's why my friend sold it to bobby. alot of times bobby's not really sure whats going on around the shop alot so i always just go up there and talk to him. He's always super busy
techno550 11-28-2005, 09:27 PM I may be interested in those S50 cams if robstah changes his mind. :)
Though that would make my M50B25 "not completely stock" other than the "minor intake and exhaust mods" it has now.
AtlzDesiKhiladi 11-28-2005, 10:31 PM sorry to hear bret...post pics of the damage...:(
john lomant 11-28-2005, 10:37 PM Why not throw pistons in that bitch. There is no need for a new motor.
Yeah, But the turn around time for new pistons is going to be upwards of 4 weeks, especially with the approaching holidays.
And Naveen, See post #9. Then look at pages 1 and 2.
john lomant 11-28-2005, 11:11 PM Man there has got to be some out there on a shelf. Its so easy to replace the pistons on that car. I would wait if I had to and than replace the rods and pistons then you will not have this problem agian. BTW that piston is definetly melted from either too much timing or way lean conditions. Let me know when your done my friend has a dyno with air fuel. I can get you a great deal.

This is not from a 6 cylinder though, is it?
The race built 3.2's *almost* make that... at the crank...
and rebuild intervals are measured in hours.
