I have a cold weather start problem with my 91 535i. It turns over but will not start. However, if I try again in about 10 minutes, it will usually start on the first try. I had the battery checked and it is ok. Any ideas?

Checked spark plugs?

How cold is there?

Plugs were replaced within the last year. Early am temperatures have been in the 10 to 20 F range.

That's cold. Did it work on other past winters that cold?

Have you considered a block heater?

It has started ok before this recent cold. Block heater was not necessary and my other vehicles start without a problem in similar conditions.

That temperature isn't that cold.

I would start by checking for intake air leaks, and check fuel pressure including residual pressure. I also wouldn't rule out a voltage supply fault, including the battery.

Maybe your fuel injectors are leaking, causing low fuel pressure at start up. After pressure builds, the car will start right up. OR, your plugs might need replacement.

like HansundFranz said, 10F-20F isn't bad; that is a cold fall morning temp here in WI. well have -10F morning temps easy here in the dead of winter and steven points is up in da northwoods.

welcome to the forums 91and02, check out our regional subforum (great lakes) if you haven't already.

i'm guessing something fuel related too.

91and02,

I live in St. George Utah, morning temps around 35-45 and have the same problem, starts after it warms up a bit and didn't have any problems in the warmer months. I'm not sure if its related but the fuel pump also stays running after shutdown. Cycling the key real quick shuts it off. Would love to find the answer to this problem, the missus is getting tired of walking in the early a.m.

Thanks, leefnm
