Woo-Hoo!!

Thanks, Jim. Got a question that I hope you can answer. Why do my pics come out darker when they are posted on BFC? The backround isn't that dark and neither is the tint on the car.

Sweet!! The color matched roof looks great! Is that factory tint? It looks kind of dark... :dunno No sports package? Or did you just take off the roof spoiler? Whats the deal? Damn you're making me antsy!!

Sorry for this probably dumb question, but whats the CVT mean? I know the S...and the base model...but CVT?

CVT is the type of transission. On the regular Cooper you can get the 5 speed or CVT (continuously variable transmission, or something of the sort). The CVT is basically a 1 speed auto that has an infinite amount of gear ratios that constantly change through the acceleration... funky aint it? :D

I think the CVT is neato! :)

Kyle, it's a base Cooper w/ a CVT. That's it. That's all mom wanted. I thought about 16s, but the ride would be way too harsh for mom. After all she is 72 years old.

Looked in the brochures and couldn't find anything on the CVT ratios.:(

Ahh, I gotcha, not YOUR car :D... if you're going for a smoother ride you might want to think of ditching the run flats. I've heard from a few people that their Coopers rode MUCH smoother on 17s without run flats than on 16s with them. :dunno

I'm ditching the Cooper after I hear back from MINI USA and my Lemon Law filing. Probably will upgrade to a Cooper S. Chili/Chili,Space cloth, 17s, DSC (no sports pack as Xenon's weren't available at the time of production). I would actually prefer a base S as it will be faster on with the 16s v. 17s.

As for the tint, it's aftermarket (35%) and it isn't that dark. I dunno, but everytime I upload a pic it gets darker.

The car pulls to the right when it is coasting. Gets way worse under acceleration. Not supposed to happen as their brochure says it has equal length driveshafts so there is no torque steer.

There is an off idle stumble w/ the ac on when I take the car out of gear (Car died a couple of times in traffic). Used to be all the time, but after the ECU reprogramming, it only happens when the car is cold, and for the first couple of miles. I still find this unacceptable.

The DCS light comes on for no reason at all. Actually, see my file below. Dates are when my car was in for servicing.

Hard time getting in and out of 1st and reverse gears

8/5 ECU just sent out to mainland per Mike T., parts mgr
8/7 Call from Mark, ECU still has not returned
8/12 Car ready for pickup
Called Mark that off idle stumble is still evident
Told Justin same thing and will speak to Rocco about trade in

8/19 Liz Flaca from MINI USA called to follow up on my internet complaint
8/20 called Liz and left message requesting fax #, also gave my cell #
8/20 engine started to stumble a little while idling at lights
- engine died on startup in the evening
- after, DSC turned off and warning light came on

Eesh. That sucks Bryan. I'm sorry to hear you're having so many problems with your Cooper.

Sometimes first year cars go through a lot of repairs before things get better.

Hope it gets better for you.

First year cars usually go through all the growing pains. Unfortunately for me, I got a lemon. The car has been in the shop for 28 days since I purchased it. At one point it reached more that 50% of the time it was in the shop. 28/55 days of ownership.

Wow, that REALLY sucks. I sure hope MiniUSA has been accommodating for all these troubles that you have been going through.

I'm waiting. To be fair, I only fired off the letter to MINI last week Monday.

friend had a 330ci delivered with a warped head. he sued when they wanted to rip out the motor and put in a new one. lawsuit got him a new 330ci as an even exchange plus free payments for each month that he lost on his original 330ci.

A lawsuit is a possibility, but I'm not making payments. I paid cash for the car, so I don't know how that affects me.:95

Let's just hope they'll be able to fix everything quickly and get everything smoothed out soon.

Maybe MINI got unlucky as the car that was not up to snuff ended up in the hands of a car enthusiast who notices lots of these niggling defects.

Yeah, but still, enthusiast or not, they better fix this without a hitch.

....but it sure is a good thing you're an enthusiat Bryan...it makes for goos posting ;)

I've read of a few people on the other side of the pond having some issues too... one that sticks out is the windshield cracking when the car goes over a bump... not good. Hopefully you'll be back in a MINI that works soon!

Yeah, Doug Mahar had that problem. His windshield cracked when he went over a bump. He posted something about it before.

Latest update

Got home and had a Fed Ex package from BMWNA. They are in receipt of my letter and are reviewing my service and warranty records. They are also talking w/ Mini of Hawaii and will look into this further. The may send their Field Service Engineer out to see my car. They will go from there.

Hey, the news is promising at least Bryan. With the field tech out there, maybe he'll be able to fix the problems that the techs of Mini of Hawaii couldn't. Best wishes dude. Keep us uptodate.

Faxed my letter and the response from MINI USA to my Motoring Advisor last night. Just spoke to my dealer and guess what? MINI is going to give me a new car! Unfortunately, it will be a like for like exchange, but my dealer is trying to work things out so I can get a Cooper S!:clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap:
