i have a 1996 740il with about 150k on it, and lately ive been noticing that sometimes my car doesnt shirt when its supposed to, it would rev all the way up to 6k rpms before i have to manually change gears, its 3rd i believe that doesnt want to leave to go into 4th, now i figured out a way to get around this, when im driving and i feel as tho it has to change gears, i hit the a/m switch to m then back to normal, that seems to change the gear on what it needs to be on, but when i come to a red light, i have to do the routine all over again, theres no clunkiness feeling or hard shifting when it does it, just seems to not want to leave that 3rd gear....i did a search on the forum, nothing seems to be the same problem as i am having, could it be a chip issue, or fluid issue?

Have you tried using the search link at the top of the page? I'm sure there has to be someone who has asked the question before or something similar.
