I was driving my friends E90 330i Steptronic, and my friend david calls me and tells me he's driving his gf's 325i step. So we meet up and stop at a stoplight. I was alone in the 330i and my friend had his gf in the car. We gun at when the light turns green. 40 - we're even, 60 im not even half a car in front, maybe like 1/8 a car in front 80 - still the same as at 60 at 100 i start to pull hard. We let off at 110 where i was 1.5 cars in front. Contrary to popular belief, these 325's are fast.... im guessing a tad bit faster than the E46 330. Well it was an interesting night, and i was very surprised with this outcome.

Well its like the same damn engine.

It is the same motor in both cars :devillook N52B30's

The new generation N52B30 in-line 6 cylinder engine replaces the M54B25 and M54B30 engines from the E46. It features many technical advances such as a magnesium/aluminum crankcase, single-belt drive for all ancilllary components, magnesium cylinder head cover and electrically driven coolant pump.


The same basic engine is shared on both the 325i and 330i models, with the difference in power ratings being achieved with intake manifold tuning and DME software. The 325i's engine is rated at 215hp at 6250 rpm, whereas the 330i's engine is rated at 255hp at 6600rpm.

Well its like the same damn engine.

Anyway, I didn't realize that those cars would be that close in performance, I guess there is not point in getting the E90 330, I can just get the 325 and save a couple of $$...but then again, I rather have the 330 :D Thanks for the info!
