I have pulled my drivers seat out of my M roadster and I was wondering how I take the back over off.

I found it!!!! from searching for about 2 hours.

I replaced one on my passenger seat - not too tough. A little annoying, but not $200 annoying.

You need to remove the seat, which is no big deal. the back plastic cover pops off fairly easily - there are a couple of plugs on the bottom that you pop out and you have to pull and slide the cover up at the same time.

From there, it's a slightly tedious process, but not difficult: you need to get most of the top cover off. The main seam and the bottom of the cover are secured with long plastic channel-like bits just pop off. It's when you get inside that things get tricky: there are a bunch of straps stitched to the inside of the seat that are secured to the frame with metal loop-hook things. These straps are what keep the cover tight and ripple-free.

There's probably a special tool for this, but I used a couple of pairs of needlenose pliers to undo each loop and release the strap until I got enough of them off to slide the cover over the top of the headrest.

The retainer itself is held on with two friction clip ring doohickeys, and they pop off with a screwdriver pretty easily.

It's a little tricker to put everything back together-- just make sure you pull the straps good n' tight before pinching the clips back in place.

Oh - and make sure you don't snap the retainer when slipping the cover back over the headrest -- undo more clips to get sufficient slack if necessary.

It took me maybe an hour to do it, and I'd never seen the inside of the seat before.

If you're worried about it, any car upholstery shop can probably do it in half the time or less, since they know how these suckers go together.

Good luck!
