So my friend Jeff has a Honda Civic Del Sol, completely gutted, fully-built B18 motor w/ LS-Vtec, B16 head, cams, racing clutch, CF hood, intake, exhaust, the works, pretty much. Not to mention he's turboed with 8 lbs. of boost.

My car is completely stock, performance-wise.

Around 1am last night we decide to run. We had our friends in 3 other cars driving up and down the empty road we were gonna race (an empty part of Woodlake for you SFV people) for maybe 20 minutes, checking every nook and cranny for cops that could be hiding. They parked at the beginning, middle and end of the strip and gave us the signal.

So we line up, engines rumbling, still a bit nervous about 5-0. Jeff tells me to go whenever I'm ready, since I don't know how to launch, and he does. I make sure to turn off ASC and radio, and grip the wheel. I take off aggressively, making sure not to dump the clutch, and it's on!

My engine is screaming, and I chirp first and second gears, and pull maybe 2 or 3 car lengths on him. But right as I'm reaching the top of third, I hear massive spooling and I know what's going to happen next. Right as I get it to fourth I see him start to pass me like he was in the fast lane on the freeway. At this point I knew it was over, since I was pinned and he just kept going. That, and we ran outta road. I shut down once he got about a half carlength and so did he. We went back to his house to talk about the whole ordeal, and we were both pretty excited.

Good race, all in all. :)

Time for a TwinScrew. :D

sounds fun, some FI would be great, I would also learn how to launch, not saying I can, but just an idea.

I see what you mean. It'd help me get a bit farther away in the beginning, but remember, he reeled me in top end.

In this situation, the launch wouldn't matter much as his friend has the faster car (even if he pulled more because of the launch). If he pulled you like that after being behind 2-3 cars, just imagine how hard he'd leave from a 40 or 50mph punch.

This sort of reminds me of my neighbor down the street. It's a yellow turbo'd Type R. I know the owner and he's a huge car nut (also has a blown Trans Am). With his Type R, he stays neck and neck with Viper GTS's from roll; it's just insane how that thing pulls to 9G! He runs consistent 11's and has yet to be beat.

Good run. Those f'in turboed b'series motors can be hella quick!!

I have a bud in the hills with a turbo's Teg GSR running 26 psi... he dynoed at 540 hp and 400 ft/lb of torque and he runs low 11's all day with little traction!

Good race!

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. It just goes to show that you really can't tell what you're up against until you actually run. We gotta watch out for those occassional ricers that blow our doors off. :)

Armo: Do I dare ask what sort of numbers he's putting out?
chamber36: Thanks bud, but we'll see wha'll happen next time... :devillook
Pooch: Heh, we almost didn't race that night because my radar detector kept picking up KA bands. We finally found a spot that was clear, and the rest is history.
KarlSpackler:Damn! :eyecrazy What's so crazy about those cars is that you can make them unbelievable fast for a fraction of what it would cost us Euro guys.
pro00: Yikes! Was he ok after the accident?

I believe he put down 410fwhp on his last dyno trip, which was a year ago. He's running 6 pounds more boost with different cams and tuning. I'm sure he's over 500fwhp by now; I haven't talked to him in a couple months.

That makes no sense. LS-Vtec means you have a non vtec b18 (b18b) block with either a B18 (B18C1 or C5) vtec head, or a B16 head.

at least you can sit comfortably in your car, and have a civilized conversation at 90mph.....

at those speeds, in his gutted honda, you wont be able to hear yourself think!

fun run tho. i like the del sol personally, i think they have lots of potential, and looks like ur friend is using it for the best :)

Where's this at? There's a few turbo'd DC2R's around here, I've only heard of low 12's from the guys around here.

I once drove a honda del sol with a newer engine swapped in (not sure what engine, I think it was from an acura) and turbocharged, the acceleration was insane, I've never been in a car that fast. Although going down the road even at city speeds and the car was so noisy and rattled so bad you had to yell at the passenger for a good conversation :D

That, and it's only really really noisy when he's going WOT, I've ridden in the car and it's not too bad. Then again, I'm used to sitting in loud cars, so it might just be me.

I agree with this. Considering you were "racing" and when the race is over you are driving a luxury car again, you still got owned because you wanted to race. If you wanna race buy a fast car and then you won't have to use excuses when you lose like oh well, at least I lost in comfort in my BMW while the other guy drives a Honda.

FYI, alot of people, including myself, drive a Honda everyday, and we still have nice cars to race with.

at the end of the day, your driving home in a BMW

and he's driving home in a Del Sol.I don't use this excuse at all when I race. Like what m3boost, flyimages and Brad said, it's just an excuse. I don't resort to that when I lose, I just accept that he's got more under the hood than I do. Not all of these non-bimmer drivers are underpriviledged like some of us think. Jeff (my Del Sol friend) actually has a nicer house than me. It's all just a matter of tastes. We want luxury and butt massagers when we drive, they just want the bare essentials. We can't rag on them for what they want. Sure, sometimes their rides look funny, but that's how they like them, and it's not up to us to decide what they should do with it.

It doesn't need to be gutted or necessarily have to have a built motor. Get a stock Integra GSR, strap on a Drag turbo kit, boost 9 psi, get an exhaust and lose the cat. It'll be bye-bye M-Roadster and a lot of other cars. :D

Pretty nice to own a BMW huh?Well, you could look at it that way. To me, it's a modded car beating a stock car, just the way it should be. And it's a Coupe, not a Roadster, but that's not really important.

But it is nice to have a bimmer. :)

Go FI your car and put him in his place. End of story. As soon as I can blow $8000, it will be done. :cool

 That kinda power is average for a heavy German car, but it's monstrous in a Japanese car. 2300lbs + 4 big guys = my car (3100lbs).

And here's an update on Jeff's Del Sol, guys. Turns out when he raced me there was a small hole in one of his pipes, so he was actually using about 4lbs instead of 8, and still beat me! Now it's been fixed and he upped the ante by running around 12lbs.

I'm scared.

I would take an m coupe over a del sol any day. I've driven a del sol with over 300 whp and sure it was a blast. But I would much rather be sitting in the m coupe. The del sol felt like it was ready to fall to peices (thats what happens when you nearly triple the stock power rating). Not to mention the thing overheats, you have to watch a million gauges to make sure nothings wrong etc. The bmw on the other hand is comfy, stable, and is going to get alot more looks, plus put a little bit of work into the beamer and you can get it to waste the little delsol.

Actually it takes more than a " little bit of work" to get into their territory. Supercharging costs quite a few grand after all is said and done, but they're still lighter by HUNDREDS of pounds.
