I've had my 328 for about a month and a half now, and i've never driven an m3. I've been driven in an m3 but never when someone was giving it.

i was driving home from school day, pretty late around 10pm, going down lakeshore. Stop a red light, look over, dakar yellow e36 M3. He's got his windows open, mine are too, i look over and say nice car. He hits the accelerator and car gives a great growl. MMM m's i lovem. Anyways he asked if i was up, and i said what the hell. (Note: At this point i'll point out that my car has no badge on it, however it has no m3 body mods other than stock sport package 328 trimmings).
Light turns green we go at it. I dont think he dropped in as hard as he would've liked to, cause i stay very close to him all throughout first and through part of second. At the end of third he was like 3 CL's on me and pulling fast. There was some traffic up ahead, so we both slow down. Once we pass traffic, we're both going about 80, he's just infront of me. Im in the far left lane, he's in the far right (3 lane road). He switches lanes and drops back enough enough to be lined up directly with me. he signals he wants to play again, we both hammer it.

this time, i see an ///M badge pulling far and fast away from me:D

obviously i wasn't expecting to win, a 328 vs an m3 is no matchup if cars are stock (i think his was too). But i love e36's so much, getting killed by an M is a privlidge for me:D

I dont know about beating M's, but it'll be quicker than it is now:D

s54 cams won't help you much but S52 will. ;)

it'll beat a stock m3, no question about it.

the M3 has 2 things over your car (stock). a more aggressive diff ratio and more power to the wheel.

compensate for both and you'll have no issue schooling one all day long.

yeah i dunno about modding this car. i seriously want to and have almost started, but if i save up for 2 more years i can plop a 3.2 litre m3 engine in. then remember to put my 318 badge on:devillook

not at the wheel.

real numbers will work out to around 230-250 whp on an M3. a stock M3 runs 190-210 whp at best. I've personally seen M3s dyno 185 whp on a clean stock motor.

do the above listed mods on a 328i and you'll be around 210 + whp, add gears and you're now a competitive player to a US spec M3.

the cost is pretty low too since the S52 cams are used and the rest of the stuff is just bolt ons plus software.

Canada received around 200+/- Euro spec M3s in '94, after that, they got the m3 that we're familiar with.

US spec M3 is more like "330is" so you could beat it or be even with those mods... (not sure, we have only few US spec here in finland, others 90% of M3s are Euro spec) but it still would not be nothing to Euro spec M3 ;)

330is with an M3 suspension, body kit, interior and similiar brakes...though without the floating front rotors.

the only true differences are the motor, gearbox*, rear subframe* and diff*.


*95 euro and US spec were identical, '96-99 Euro were larger and more durable w/ 6 spd.

323 actually have a 2.5 with a crappy exhaust setup.

I didn't say they were but they still put out more power then the US spec and had better gearing.

Canada got 50 in 1994. 281 advertised hp.

yeah in canada we got eurospec m3's for a while, and i think we might've got the SMG a year before you guys did.

i almost bought a 94' yellow euro spec m3 before i bought my 328, it had no power option and no leather, but had the 3.2 w/ 6 tbodies 281hp, went well, but worth huge $$$, i wasnt going to pay 35,000 for a used m3 w/ 90,000kms....:devillook

and I though we only got 45 Euro spec 94' M3's and advertised 286HP My old boss had one but he sold it after his son rolled it into a ditch, then got rebuilt again. And there is one for sale with like 40000km or so for $45000
