Anyone up for some canyons this weekend?
Preferably, leave sometime like 10AM on Saturday.

I promise I'll try not to spinout this time :)

Id like to do a longer canyon.
Mullholland would be cool, though I doubt anyone is gonna wanna go up there with me.
Ortega is kind of lame, but doable.
Turnbull is way too short.
Trabuco is kind of boring.

Anyone have any suggestions?
I'm down for pretty much anything.

Edit: I'm in SoCal/Orange County, willing to drive a bit

You will probably end up dead on Angeles Crest. Food for thought.

Explain please.

Hey wump I get off of work at 3 on saturday. I'd be willing to take a drive at angelus with you. Maybe you can reschedule for next week since everybody is traveling for the holiday. Let me know.

Angeles Crest ia a pretty technical road. It is narrow with some crazy decreasing radius turns. Quite a few people have died from taking a dive over the side.

http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/AngelsCrest.htm

"Before you ride this- put the knee-draggin' daredevil stuff in your pocket and leave it there. A few years ago in June 1999, the CHP were the enforcers of a $100,000 grant to patrol a 38 mile section of Crest with a zero tolerance policy on the speed limit, double yellow passing, and anything else they could conjure up. By May 2000, 1400 tickets had been written, as much as 10 times the normal amount- the majority written on the weekend. Prior to the grant from 1995-1999, Angeles Crest averaged 5 deaths and 66 serious injuries per year. Although motorcyclist account for only 3% of registered vehicles, on Crest- 47% of the accidents were motorcyclists.

Accidents dropped by a factor of two on the 38 mile section allegedly from this enforcement. This special grant however, expired back in 2001. "

TonyMasone told me something after he crashed his 318 at Turnbull:

"I crashed when I was trying to catch up to someone"

I did some thinking, and I crashed at Malibu trying to keep up with Jesten's insane car.

At the time I didn't think I was reacting differently, but now I'm 100% sure that knowing you're lagging behind everyone else has a huge psychological effect on your handling of certain situations.

For example, I have done turnbull a handful of times in the last week. On one of those times, I oversteared like a bitch on this turn that randomly had water all over the road coming out of it. But I recovered it, unlike last time when I almost got teh pwned.

If we go for angels crest, I won't be trying to keep up with you guys.

It's a good canyon if you respect it. I've had a friend pass away on one of the turns trying to avoid a oncoming motorcycle. He was going too fast to stop in time. As with any canyon it has it's factors. Strong points and weaknesses. I've been riding the canyon for a good 5 years now, up until last year only as a passenger in my bro's tt 300z. You'll love it if you know your boundaries. It's very unforgiving though *cough* gary*cough* especially towards the top as the road begins to narrow and the turns become sharper.
I'm up for a cruise/run. Let me know
