Thanks to some excellent help from Brady today we got the sliding roof in, visors and temporarily some seats to sit in to work on the inside of the car.

Finally put the visors I have in. Been hoarding them for about 2 years.. rare - a NOS set with mirrors in both driver and passenger sides!

It's really great because more and more it's becoming a car. We hooked 12V up to a few things and tested them out... The funny thing about the first thing I heard when it fired up was the key buzzer because the door was not connected and the key was in the ignition. Can't recall hearing that in anybody elses 02, I guess they are probably a nuisance after a while.

In the process of all this sunroof work, I've written down about 20 pages of documentation on the sunroof install and rehab I'll be sharing in the days ahead. Stay tuned... about ready for the glass and then the doors.

Looks good.

Where is the door buzzer located? Somewhere near the knees? I'm thinking of replacing mine with something a bit more soothing.

Ha ha, I removed mine a Looooooooooong time ago.
I didn't like the sound of a pig killing over, but that headliner looks great.;)

Isn't is just GREAT, when you have the hazards on, or, the buzzer just decides to change tones and make all kinds of awful sounds? With the hazards on, I can hear exactly when the lights go on and off.

Looks great and congrats on coming into the home stretch. When the glass goes on, you will/may (you have been real patient) find yourself moving a lot faster.

I was so excited, I did not mark for my visors and now I drive w/o. I am afraid to poke around and mess up the new headliner - I don't remember exactly where they go and pulled the headliner tight enough so I cannot feel it w/o loosing the clean drum look. Very happy to see that you did not make the same mistake.

On a completely unrelated note, are you going to keep the speakers as a top mount or mount under the hat shelf, in trunk? I went with a reasonaable gauge speaker grill over the original stuff (I cut out holes for the speaker to allow sound to pass), covered it with acoustic fabric, and used the pinch welt stuff that holds down the headliner and vinyl around the doors to hold it together. Maintains a somewhat original look, doesn't compromise sound nor does it create rattles. More importantly, hides your equipment from those people who like your things more than you do (thieves). I thought my car was one of the only rides to have it that way, but it seems coupe king does speaker installs in a similar fashion. They do a top mount then raise the shelf to hide the speaker, check it out: www.coupeking.com/product_main.php?product_id=320

The headliner looks flawless, and the two new sun visors match perfectly. I wish everyone could see just how good it all looks.

Thanks for asking. I have'nt decided exactly what to do with the hat shelf. You bring up a good option. I have to give that some thought... I do have a pretty healthy/stealthy alarm planned for the car and I need to decide if thats enough.

I guess you think I might have something cool planned for stereo options in the beast? :)

I can only imagine what you will do - the rest of the car is so tight, I know you won't half step on the system. My system is kind of ridiculous and contemporary, which is why I went with the stealth approach - also keeps the purists at bay. The "glass house" kind of tells the world what you have inside. :eyecrazy

I have to go back on your site (aka the bible) to see what you are doing with the console, I recall you finding a period correct stereo. I mounted a 5 channel/700 watt amp to the back of my speaker box - again stealth and so as not to add too much additional weight.

Actually I procured over time with help of others audio nuts like me a stash of vintage, mostly NOS parts from A/D/S. PowerPlate amps, 5.25 and 6.5" component systems. I run a similar setup in my E30 with a pair of 345is and a PQ-10 amp.

I've abandoned the old radio as the head unit idea. At first I wanted a Nakamichi CD-400 head unit but they seem to be made out of un-obtanium. I'm looking for something for the long drive that I don't have to fuss with, that I can easily add IPOD or similar.

So far the best bang for the buck (while not looking like some crazy thing from PimpMyRide) to me is a JVC KD-ADV6160, which will let you play 1,100 MP3 or WMAs from one DVD-R disk. That's like a 10 cd jukebox on disc. If I had 3 disks, that would probably cover my entire home music collection without having to put a changer in the trunk. They sell for about $250.00 all day long. I have a friend with one, his seems to be a nice unit, mostly black face but in dire need of real amplification. It has jack for iPod or similar device right on the face plate, also takes input from the back. You can turn the internal amps off so you don't create a bunch of heat also.

Anybody got any other ideas I should consider on the head unit front?

Aside from that the car will most likely play pretty awesome tailpipe music when you want it to.

That ADS Pq10 rocks. I bought an ADS amp and mb quart speakers for my '68 Camaro. Great sound. I was sooo disappointed when I heard ADS is now made in Taiwan and mb quart is out of business. I ended up buying a JL 500/5for the e28 m5 and the German JL separates. Should ound ok.

Funny, I actually got the JVC Arsenal KD-AR860 ($249) because of the black face for my coupe. On my 02, I did not think about it and got a Pioneer headunit (I think $175). The Pioneer is a more powerful unit but does not have the same look as the JVC. I got a Kicker KX650.4 to push it and the speakers. They currently have Infinity subs by one get one free.

I have had very good interaction with Crutchfield. I had a tweeter in a set of infinity kappa components go out on me and they replaced it without question or hesitation with a newer model. I am not used to real customer service anymore but they obviously know what it takes to keep a customer. Prices are competitive, they warranty their products for a year, and they adjust the price if they lower it.

Cris, I have a good source for A/D/S/ stuff in San Diego if you need something. The PQ10s are easy to find on Ebay. There are people selling off stuff from time to time... ex ADS employees in Tempe,AZ it seems bought pallet loads of the stuff at the bankruptcy auction.

As for Stella, I have an almost new PQ15, just need to find the right place to install it ... back seat or under passenger seat :)

I just might have to get with you on the ADS stuff.

Thanks, Cris
