Buying snow tires is the surest way to guarantee that we get very little snow this year. It's like when you buy a new set of rain tires for the racecar, you will not see a drop all year...:stickoutt

it doenst just have to snow... "snow" tires work well at the temperature range for winter. Much like how all-seasons dont work well at the track... winter tires have a compound which is more suitable for cooler temperatures.

RWD in the snow isn't too bad....just don't drive fast. be smooth not jerky. (jerk)

it hardly matters if you have snow tires. there are so many bad drivers in the DC metro area, that when it snows, or rains... or gets cloudy... they just spontaneously hit the car in front of them for no reason.

i put snows on my car. i also try not to drive when it snows. they are more for emergency purposes to me, if i HAD to drive somewhere, or if it starts snowing before I am able to get home.

be safe this season fellas... stay sharp and alert looking for idiot MAR drivers.

you still need winter tires. max performance tires will get stuck going down hill if it's deep enough. last winter was my first with winter tires and i was surprised at the traction. better than a honda civic with all seasons. i was driving a 325 with m3 suspension/LSD.

i know, most people with awd drive cars don't have the high performance 10 inch wide tires on them, unless the own an sti or evo or something...

the stock tires for my xi work very well in the snow...

forget snow tires just get an awd car...

the number of awd cars that ended up in the median or stuck on the sholder of our road last winter outnumbed the amount of fwd and rwd combined.
think about that for a sec and see if you can figure out why........

bc most people who buy them think they are invincible, and it doesn't matter how many wheels are powered on a car when there is ice on the ground, cupcake

AWD only helps you go. It doesn't help you turn or stop. I'll take a RWD car on snows over an AWD on regular tires anyday.

this is very true. I usually pass 2-3 4x4s in a ditch on my way to where ever during a snow storm, in the e36. snow tires and a calm attitude are all you need in an e36.

...and AWD does help you turn, if you throttle into the turn.

Pilot Sports + M3 = not good in snow... Thinking I might pick up a set of snow's this year too...

snow isn't the big thing around here. . .it's ice and slippery conditions. While there might not be a lot of precipitation, there's still the chance for impaired traction.

get something for it. I like my Blizzack WS-50's because they're more of an ice tire over anything else. I mean, yeah, they kick ass in the snow, but they really stick on icy surfaces too.

I call dibs on someone's ZKW's when their e36 gets rear ended. I could use another set of wheels, too.

Hah...hahahaha.

Smooth? I let OFF the gas just a little bit on 495 last winter and the SLIGHT effect of engine breaking was enough to spin the ass end of my car out.

Staring at a concrete sound barier going 40mph sideways with cars on either side of you = no fun. Somehow snapped the wheel into the turn and got it back, pulled off the road.

..then a cop "pulls me over" (yeah, kinda like supertroopers..."but officer, I'm already pulled over") and tells me to keep moving. I asked him it he JUST SAW what happened and he was like, eh, just keep it moving.)

Same day I watched a beautiful purple/blueish 911 Carrera 2 (which was parked next to me at a gas station at the top of the hill going to my house.. no way I was even going to try it) sliiiiiiide down the hill, with NO steering control at all.. right into the curb. Most expensive *bounce* I've seen in a while. I'm sure he didn't make it up the other side of the hill either (I was in the subaru dealership watching the Gosnell Rd. hill in tysons for those of you who know it, with the Shell station on top at Rt. 7.)

Poor guy in the porsche shoulda waited longer before trying it. :(

Marisa and I took the Boxster to PA for thanksgiving and saw a lot of snow. I had absolutely no issues with the snow tires installed. The car would have been undriveable with the summer tires on

And they felt just like regular all-season tires on dry roads in 25 degree temperatures. Snow tires rule.
