SO i am leaving work its about 1230. I go all the way down the interstate. pull of to the highway. My roommate drives a 4runner and usually stays right on me the whole way. we pull up to light and usually he will pull up next to me to play around. For fun. he starts to pull into the lane and pulls right back behind me. i was like whats going on. So here comes a black car. To dark to tell what it is due to darkness until he pull next to me and all i see is ss on the fender. I honestly did not know what to do. I knew i couldnt beat him but should i even waste the gas and try. WHat the hell. The light turns green and i drill it. HE is right beside me even all the way threw first we hit second i see his window roll down he waves and drills it and leaves me like i was in a geo metro. At that point i let off. he pulls infront of me. we come to the light where i turn and i run up on him maybe i can get him on the inside of the turn. It goes from 4 lanes turn to 3 lanes. well nope right before the turn he guns it and takes it at over 60 because i was doing between 45 and 50 and he is gone. lights out. I just cruised the 10 blocks home. MY roomate pulls up laughing his ass off. I found him about 20 minutes later at 7eleven. He has the works on the car. from exhaust, heads, you name it its on there. he was like dam you gave me a pretty good run. he didnt think 3 series bmw's were that fast. Needless to say i just shook my head the whole time while i looked at the monster i was parked next to.

SS Camaro's are sick fast. I would never think of challenging one.

My good friend and mechanic Matt has an turbo LS1 swap in an '87 Starion. Im sure it would be just as sweet in an E36 bimmer. Its really a compact, lightweight motor all things considered.

Good run.....if indeed it was a heads/cam LS1, you were up against a minimum of 400 rwhp/400 tq. (these days you can hit that with an agressive cam and full bolt ons really), likely closer to 425-430 rwhp. Solid 11 sec car trapping in the low-mid 120's. No shame in that loss, a stock Z06 would have bit off more than he could chew against that car. :cool

He gets that ass out anytime he wasnt to tap that throttle, methinks.

Agressive clutchwork, too.

no oversteer the suspension and tires on it were sweet. It hooked up like a hooker on the strip.

We are currently in the final stages of the swap, mostly electronics bugs being worked out. I just donated the PCM out of my late Z-28 :( to the cause. He should have it up and running and tuned shortly after first of the year. All the "hard parts" are in and done, including the fully custom turbo setup he did. It was ass-happy with the old crappy 4 cly turbo motor in there (which he had done some work to as well), I can't wait to see what its like with a 500 rwhp/ 500 lb tq. It'll be the baddest drift car in Charlotte, if not the scariest. :help :D

I just sold my 1999 Pontiac T/A Firehawk. Had the LS1, and it was a beast. I still love the M3 more but I do miss the extra 100hp at the wheels the LS1 had. :-)

Wowsers ! I would need some nerve pills before i would get behind the wheel of such a small & light car with an LS1 under the hood. would be scary in the twisties... :eyecrazy

I have seen a lot of cars with ls1 swaps but none compare to the orginal cars they came in. Sorry but you cant beat what it was design for.
Update: ran into the guy again at the same 7eleven and went for a ride. Let just say dam. IF you think you can catch him you cant. that night he was just playing. when i got in he quit playing. lets just say i couldnt lift my had when he nailed it. in 4th. At the end he pulled out the dyno 546 rwhp and 552 rwt. not to mention the laughing gas he had tapped in but disconnected. its only a 125 shot. nothing big to him. As before i just giggled like a little kid and shook my head. But still no oversteer. it just stuck to the ground. price tag on the mods? over 50K. Cant run on the track no cage just crazy person behind the wheel.
