Thinking of either a E36 M3/4 or maybe a 540 as a daily driver. We get some snow up here in PA so would definitly get some winter tires. Am I nutzzz??? :confused

I had snow tires on my M3 and it was awesome in the snow! Anything more than a couple inches and it became a snow plow but up until that point it was a tank. Tires make ALL the difference so invest in some dedicated snow tires and you'll be set. :cool

I've always driven all of my cars year round. (Mustangs, Corvettes, M3, 325, etc)

Drives great! I will say that this winter I'll probably toss a set of snow chains in the trunk in case of emergencies--but I had no issues at all last winter.

My MARB has never seen snow, or much cold weather for that matter. :laugh

I drive mine all year on max performance summer tires.

No, that's not a joke. There are some days I can't go out - like right after a snowstorm - but usually I'm just careful and don't drive like a maniac.

I got the Dunlop WinterSport M3 something or other. They are called M3 so they must be made for the car right? :buttrock

Since 1990, I have been using Bridgestone Blizzak Winter Tires on my Daily
Drivers: '90 Plymouth Laser RS("Retired") & '95 Dodge Avenger ES
("Retired").

The last set were LM-22's; recommended for High Speeds in Germany during the Winter Months...once you Drive on these Tires; you wonder why you waited so long to have dedicated Winter Tires vs. All Season....I had no problems passing 4x4's in the Winter; including stopping capability with these Tires. :buttrock

This year, I plan to get a new set of Blizzak's for my current daily driver: '02 300M.

The Tire Rack has excellent prices on Wheel Packages: tirerack.com

BTW: My "Roadster" hibernates for the Winter...too much Salt & Sand
in NH...:(

I have Bridgestone Blizzaks on Bottlecaps... I like them and I'd recommend them, but they are a little loud on the interstate with no snow.

I made it through 6+ inches of snow on my way to Snowshoe once last year without any problems (although I was a bit nervous).

I guess smaller is better for winter driving right. So instead of 235 or 245 / 17's, look for 225's?

Thanks

Kumho V710s are your best bet for the snow.

Yes, narrower is better for deep snow/ice.

Yes, narrower is better for snow. I had 225/50 mounted on 16" Mille Miglia Spyder (I think).

The only picture i have with them on. :(

btw, last winter I had balding summer tires on my 540. I figured if it snowed I would just not drive. At the time I walked to work, had metro access, and lived across the street from Giant and CVS so really I didn't even need a car.

I did get caught in the snow once while at a friend's house. I had to have my friends push me out of the parking spot, but once I got on the road I didn't have too much trouble getting home. DSC is pretty remarkable in what it'll do for you in the snow. I'd guess between a 540 and m3 a slight edge would go to the m3 because of its LSD, but the 540 does have more weight. With a set of snow tires I'd imagine both would do fine.

Haha, i guess that picture doesnt inspire too much confidence. A deer did that, the roads were dry at the time. :)

Want something that's KING in the snow? Get an E30 325iX! I'd drive that thing anyday, and in any weather.

A couple of years ago when we had a BIG blizzard here in the Baltimore area I happened to be at my parents house, but hadn't been watching the news. They declared a state of emergency because of the weather and placed a $1000 fine on any non emergency vehicles on the roadways. Since I hadn't watched the news, I didn't know and went to drive back to my apartment. The iX trudged through the snow like a trooper and I had no trouble whatsoever getting around in the deep stuff covering the roadways. The roads were like a ghost town and I didn't realize till I got home and turned on the TV that I coulda been fined had I run into a cop. Oh, and that wasn't even on snow tires...just all season Pirelli P6000's. If I put some Nokian Hakkapelita's or Bridgestone Blizzak's on it she'd be invincible! Damn, I love that car. It's tons of fun in a big, empty, snow covered parking lot too...:D

I agree blizzaks are awesome tires..... but for a very comparable tire at a much cheaper price I would suggest graspics (sp) My dad use to run them on his 525i stick and his 735il and they made those cars tanks, and they are about half the price of the blizzaks..... i'd rather put the money somewhere else though then a winter tire.
