View Full Version : m10 EFI
Jmabarone 11-17-2005, 10:50 PM Okay, so I was just looking on ebay today and I came across an M10 fuel injection intake manifold from an e30. CIS suxs, how feasible would it be to replace the CIS manifold with the EFI? I know that the e30's DME would be needed, but doesn't the CIS's "computer" control the ignition as well?
Jake
Yonkers320is 11-18-2005, 07:48 PM you will need the manifold and injectors+their harness, and the MAF meter. With the E30s computer you just need a few wires, not the whole harness as in the E30....
I have the conversion article from the Roundel if you want to read it.
kdanielson 11-18-2005, 08:30 PM It's easy bolt on stuff. Manifold/injectors/fuel rail/fuel regulator all just bolt straight on. The CIS computer in your '83 does not control ignition.

tlmitf 11-18-2005, 09:08 PM if your going EFI, i would get some basic management, around 1000-1500AUD gets a very cometent system here.
this way you will get a good tune, and be able to get the most out of your mods, and any future mods - even forced induction if you feel the need.
i know, then you pay for the tuning, but then you know your not going to be loosing power or hurting the motor.
fullswing 11-18-2005, 09:48 PM As with any mod, improvement value vs cost has to be considered. Yonkers, would you mind fwding a copy of the article to me (jimborev@yahoo.com). Does the article mention the complete set of items needed?
TomHickey 11-19-2005, 07:33 AM I would also be interested in getting a copy of the article forwarded to me (hickeywt@bright.net) or (whickey2347@scpwildblue.com)

Thanks!
kdanielson 11-19-2005, 11:30 PM On a stock or near stock engine Motronic from the e30 is a very smart way to go. Have fun with it and when you want to go progamable give me a shout.

Thanx!
Ken, is this a "step in the right direction" when looking to go turbo within the next year or so? I know I'll need some sort of standalone when the time comes...I recall a few folks using 318i intake manifold/runners, etc., when running MegaSquirt and the other systems for boost applications.
www.2002faq.com has an article on the conversion also. Not from CIS, but putting EFI on any M10.
Matt
kdanielson 11-21-2005, 10:16 AM zac78,
Yes, the e30 318i intake/fuelrail is a good starting point for an EFI conversion-boosted or not.
Have you seen my webpage on EFI conversion? It may give you some direction on setting it up.

zak78 11-21-2005, 10:47 PM Thanx Ken, your write-up was a big help.
slowe21 11-22-2005, 01:28 AM What about the std 320i fuel pump, accumulator and fuel lines???
Are they up to the task of handling EFI (aftermarket or custom) ????
Cheers
Windy
kdanielson 11-22-2005, 10:14 AM Some say they are ok, I used a modern high pressure in-tank pump from an Acura RSX. A popular external in line pump is on the Ford trucks mounted to the frame near the fuel tank.
