View Full Version : San Diego Advice on EATS!!!
rennwerkes 11-17-2005, 06:50 PM Folks, need some advice.
I'm flying down from Honolulu on the 24th with the wife and six year old son to John Wayne and driving to San Diego. Probably get to San Diego around 8pm or a bit later and was wondering if there's any good Thanksgiving buffet?
Also, open to any suggestions for kid friendly places.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
TIA!!!
I can name many places for good eats.... but with a TG buffet?.... uhhh.... anyone else know? I guess I always rely on the parents for TG eats.
If you want good mexican... do a search, there are WAY too many threads on that subject.
If you want da kine eats, there are a few good hawaiian places too. ;)
rennwerkes 11-18-2005, 12:52 AM Nah, just looking for simple "regular" eats.
I enjoy Mexican but my boy still enjoys the things that kids enjoy.
We're just used to Thanksgiving buffet spreads out here in Hawaii. Nearly every hotel has one from the low end hotels on up to the nicest. I guess it must be a Hawaii thing!
Not looking for "Da Kine" food either LOL! Actually, we rarely, if ever, eat Hawaiian here. Not the most heart healthy food around.
Id be willing to bet that the Hotel Del Coronado has a nice spread for TG, but id call and ask tomorow. Then again, its probably already booked full. Maybe worth a shot?
SR20Fastback 11-18-2005, 03:15 AM hey jonas, were you on encinitas blvd this morning/afternoon? I think I saw you in the 02
SStan 11-18-2005, 04:11 AM Im going to suggest try one of the Hometown Buffets around town.
I would think they are open on Turkey day, always good food and usually includes a selection of mexican dishes.
Might give em a call and see what their hours are on the holiday

HellRotCoupe 11-18-2005, 05:57 AM I'd try and find a Marie Callendar's. I know where the Escondido and Encinitas locations are, but I believe there's a couple more in San Diego county.
As far as any others that are open on turkey day, I don't know. It's been a LONG time since I've gone to anything other than a pho' place.

rennwerkes 11-18-2005, 04:10 PM What are the suggestions for OC?
Don't mind staying up in that area, just a little concerned about driving down to SD later in the evening being that I've never made the drive before. Is it an easy drive?
Thanks!
Sephiroth619 11-19-2005, 12:13 AM East Buffet in Miramar. 11 bucks, all you can eat Korean Ribs. Need I say more?
OC -> SD = easy drive.
< 1 hour straight down the 5
.. of course on a major Holiday, it's always a crapshoot as to traffic.

Kinda ironic you're concerned about "heart healthy food" and you're looking for a buffet. In that case hit Souplantation (http://www.sweettomatoes.com/), all you can eat salads and other goodies. Go to this website: http://www.sweettomatoes.com/ and punch in your zip code to find a location near you in San Diego. You can try 92111 as a reference.
xlifelessdaysx 11-20-2005, 12:24 AM I know knotts has a epic buffet, i would call them.. the surrounding hotels also offer good buffets.
the drive is super easy just go south on the five for an hour. the only problem you could run into is traffic.

rennwerkes 11-20-2005, 03:14 PM Thanks for the driving info! I'll cross my fingers.
Regarding Hawaiian food not being "heart healthy". You're right that buffets don't always serve the most healthy foods either but you can pick and choose what you want to eat. While the Hawaiian's did eat some very healthy foods none of them is on the plate that you buy. It's always lau lau (Pork or chicken with pork fat), pipikaula (salted meat), lomi salmon (lots of salt again), etc, etc.
Bimmer Pilot 11-22-2005, 12:09 AM Seriously, try Hometown Buffet. Not badly priced for all you're gonna eat. I don't know their hours on TG though...
Which part of SD are you visiting?
rennwerkes 11-22-2005, 12:37 AM Seaworld area. Taking my son to Seaworld and the Zoo.
Heading back to Orange County for DisneyLand after that.
Then it's off to SanFran!
Thanks for all the tips!
