Looks like Mead is now closed as well. 3 tracks gone in the last few months.

Copied from SCCA message board:

The Mead racetrack has been closed.

A posting on the SCCA bulletin board confirms this,
and I spoke with Mike Pettiford who also confirmed
this.

Mike says this was a surprise to him. The track was
closed last Monday and he believes it is permanent.

Separately from Mike, I read this was a decision by
the owner/managers in response to, well, politics I
don't know enough
about to comment on. Scuttlebutt is the owner/manager
got fed up with people complaining about the track
condition, etc.

Apparently, concrete barriers have been placed across
the track.

Found this as well...

Looks like a new track is going up early next year in Hastings, NE (about 4hrs east).

Oddly reminds me of the layout of 2nd Creek.....

that track in hastings is supposed to be pretty decent... but it is about 200miles from julesburg IIRC, so more like 5 hours..... i think....

they were hoping to get a lot of traffic from the second creek closing, I know that....

I've heard they haven't even broke ground yet. Fat chance it will be ready for 06 :(

Yep, read the bad news yeseterday on the RMsolo list. I guess the owner was tired of everyone complaining about track conditions so he just decided to close it.

I heard it was supposed to be done in '07...but thats just rumor.

That just sounds like the lamest reason to shut down a track. The owner is there to make money, and that's sure not going to happen with it closed. I know if I owned that track I'd be stoked as PPIR and 2nd Creek closed, ie much less competition = MO $$$ for me!

I drove it this past July and I thought it was in fine shape, isn't it just perfect that the whiners ruin everything for us?

He must not have been making any money b/c income would = a budget for track repair. Maybe he could have kept it open for a little while longer to see if the traffic would pick up with 2nd creek now closed... Although with it being winter it probably wouldn't have made too big of an impact...
