Do you guys know if the Scheel seats will fit onto the normal E9 bracket? I found a pair on craigslist and the guy wants like 100 for the pair.

I don't recall if you will need to adapt the brackets but it doesn't matter. Scheels are hard to come by and at that price are a steal - buy the pair and figure it out later. They had a seats write up on 2002faq.com. You can also check out/ask Al at Seams Perfect. He posts as Al Canuck.

In my experience with them, the Scheel seat mounts are different than Recaros in terms of the North/South orientation, but the bolt locations but they the same width East/West.

There must be a TUV spec regarding what width seats are because they all seem to be about the same in German cars.

You may just have to drill new holes into the brackets to make them work on the E9.

Good luck, sounds like you scored.

Ok, I checked the 2002 faq site, but all they have on the Scheels is a picture, not really what I have to do to make them fit. Also, the Scheels are in need of at least a recover. I have not bought them yet, as I would like to get an estimate of recover costs.

Probably at least 300 to recover them.

To give you the install procedure, look at this link:

This should give you a pretty simple overview on how it's done. The brackets shown that come on the Recaros will be something you won't have. You will need to fabricate something to adapt the seats to the seat tracks, as I was mentioning above.

If you are doing an install in the 3.0cs you should probably send Paul Cain an email on your install questions, www.38csi.com. With regard to cost, you may be looking at a cost closer to $600 plus if done in vinyl and almost double if done in leather. It should cost much less than $1200+ if you source the leather yourself. Keith has an excellent write up and link to ebay hides on his site.

Again, just buy the seats especially if they have the headrests. If you don't want them, please let me know and I will get them. I have a 73 3.0csa and after a seller flaked out on selling me a set of Scheels, I had to go in another direction.

The seats I was to purchase were straight but ratty as hell - and it still would have cost me around $275/$300. BTW, it did not come with rails either, dude made sure to tell me he was yanking them off for himself. Like staggered Alpina rims, they don't surface too often. Brand new Scheels are something like $3k.

If you check out the e9coupe board or 2002faq, there is a guy that posts who sells new era correct, vintage looking seats. Much more reasonable in cost than the Scheels but still more than a used seat buy and reupholster.

Good luck and let me know.

I concur, they are the best. Mine smell like two new baseball gloves right now. Can't wait to see them in the car.

Wow! Those look realy nice. Kind of a recaro look. My scheel's are different. What a score for $100 even if you have to recover them.

Those are an 80's model Scheel-Mann, which have the nice lumbar adjustment for us old guys with bad backs.

I resized these three so you can see the rest. Really don't have any good pics of them yet per se, but you get the idea. THe back seat is being stitched to match the same pleat pattern in leather too.

On the right side you can see the adjustment of the lumbar bag location and the amount of pressure outwards of the lumbar bag. Really nice if you take long rides.
