Yes, this is the first time I believe I have actually raced a guy from a dead stop...Basically, on my way to work I pull up to a stop light where a 350Z pulled up next to me. I looked over, he had that look in his eye, he was inching forward bit by bit waiting for the light to change. I personally wasn't paying much attention and wasn't positive if he was going to gun it or not, I figured I'd just roll on to the power instead of gun it right away just to see what happens...The light turns green, he guns it, then I quickly stepped into it. Being that he gunned it from the start I was a little behind him, but not by much. Once I hit second my clutch slipped pretty much all the way through (my clutch is gone...I'm ordering a UUC clutch tomorrow) yet I still gained on him and pulled even with him once my clutch finally caught on, and as I approached the end of 2nd my nose was in front of his. As I hit 3rd I really started to pull on him, but then I immediately slowed down as part of the lane I was in is currently in the process of being resurfaced, so it was all rough and crappy, and me with my S-03's decided to merge into the clean lane...the road is horrible for soft compound tires. But I figured he got the picture.
As we approach another stoplight I merged back into the other lane, and so did he as I was the first in my lane and there were other people in front of him in his lane. When the light changed I didn't gun it from the start and was just cruisin so he changed lanes and started to pass me WOT (or so it seemed...I could tell kinda from his exhaust note). I immediately downshifted, pulled even with him, then took off in front of him.
Then as we approached the final stoplight he got in front of me as I had some people in front of me who changed lanes and I ended up behind him. He gunned it when the light changed, I just eased onto it, I pretty much stayed directly behind him the whole time, having to slow down a bit because I was approaching him too close too fast, then I changed lanes and took the freeway, he just continued on...
Pretty exctiting, for me anyways, put a big ol' grin on my face. I've driven 350Z's before and they were damn fast (then again The 350Z I test drove though was a track 35th anniversary edition which probably could've taken me)...I'd figure this one would give me some good competition, but I was suprised when I saw how I well I was pulling on him.
I've got a 99 540i/6 with a Dinan CAI and Dinan engine software, but I've also got 19" M-par replicas...
