So I was looking at the Bavarian Autosport High Performance Ignition Wire Set. And does anyone have those on their car? Are they worth it? How much of a difference do they make?

Thanks in advance!

Buy them!
I bought a set of Bavarian Autosport wires just for fun becuase I needed new wires and after I installed the new platinum plugs and wires it runs smoother and accelerates faster.
This is before I cleaned the engine bay.

Yes, I think it is.
I did a double take when you said $80 because mine are $60.

So you're running platinum plugs too? How are they holding up? I've heard of other's having problems with platinum plugs...

If you need to replace plug wires, any good quality version will do.

Nology wires are a little iffy - some engines they seem to make a good difference, others they make a bad difference or no difference. I think they have potential, but only with some programable ignition adjustment, maybe.

Platinum plugs are not a performance item - they are a long-term non-maintenance item. Copper plugs perform better but don't last as long. Also, usually, single electrode plugs perform better than multi-point plugs, but also don't last as long.

Replacing any worn out ignition components with new anything is an improvement.

Sorry to continue the hijack, but platinums or at least Bosch Platinum +4's do not run well with the stock m10 ignition system.

Jbob's are posted here after 3 or 4 months of use and there are other threads about this.

I am running single electrode Champion platinum plugs and I have not had any problems.
I had Auto Lite, but that is a Ford company and the Champions seem to run smoother.

I am very happy with the set up I got from E21 Parts. Comes with a high voltage coil, cap/rotor, huge wires(8.8mm) and AR52 plugs gapped at .050 It made such a difference my wife even noticed

Broly, dont do it! Lance bought the bav auto plug wires, and they are fragile. If you remove your plug wires to check your plugs often, and and lance and I do for tuning, eventually your expensive fancy 8mm red wires will separate from the boot. Lance ate 1 or two. They came on my project car, also. The first time I checked the plugs, I pulled on the thick rubber 'shaft' and the connector separated from the wire, just like lances did.

You want some 8mm wires cheap (stock is 7mm)? Go get some Accel wires from GI Joes or similar. They come in a box with 8 for V8's, so you will have extra. You build the wire set yourself with a crimper. They come in Blue, black, Red and Yellow. And they are like $20.

Just my 02 cents:)

Did you pull on the boot or the wire?
I only gently wigle the boot off and I have had no problems.
If you pulled on the wire I can see why the wire pulled out.:)

I always pull the boot. And there is no gently about it; I pull of the stock plug wires, for 12 years on my 78, and never had this issue until I replaced my stock wires with after markets, and they separated also. You shouldn't really have to be gentle anyway. At first glance, they Bav auto wires really do look well built, and the labels for each cyl is a nice touch. But where the wire itself connects to the connector inside the boot it can break off after a while.

I will keep looking for different kinds of wires, I will keep your idea in mind as well John, Thanks so far everyone.

I purchased a set of Magnecor (http://www.magnecor.com/magnecor1/main.htm) wires from Ireland awhile back. They have worked out pretty well, though they are a little pricey.

Oh, come on. You can feel the difference? From spark plugs and wires? Well, actually I guess I believe it if you had marginally defective wires before that were not working, or maybe fouled plugs. I don't believe you'd see a difference between a new OEM set of wires and the correct plugs and this setup...

I ran MSD 8.5mm wires on my old M10, with a different cap and BMW rotor. I had an MSD 6-BTM ignition box. Car ran the same as before and I never ended up using the 6-BTM for what it was supposed to be used for. Ignition stuff is bogus on a stock engine. You're running high voltage stuff than wires and plugs will help, but on a stock motor I don't really see the point.

Thats what I was debating, I wasn't about to drop $80 for something that wouldn't have any noticeable difference. There are better things to spend $80 on.

The ignition package from e21 parts.net claims you get a 10hp gain from it. Im thinkin of getting that soon

I'm with the stock brigade. A good, new set of OE wires with fresh plugs is about as good as it gets. I used to order my BMW wire sets from Maximillian, but then I found out the get them from Kingsborne Wire, so I started going direct to them. Nice Beru ends, quality wire, and a super slick wire loom, even for the M10. Cost is about $55. Plugs I have always used Bosch Super, but lately have been having problems with them. Seems Bosch is making plugs in India now, and I have had more than one break up on me. I've switched over to NGK in all my BMW's.

Show me a dyno sheet.

The ignition system on an M10 is not its weakpoint. The fuel injection is. Getting a tuned mixture is more difficult than throwing a spark. I bet the 10 hp came from timing advance rather than parts that were put on.

Well I guess it's possible. Throwing a bigger spark with a higher gapped plug can't be all bad. Looks like I need to pull the plugs on the Typhoon and gap them a little more. My MSD coil, Cap and Rotor, probably throw enough to go to a .055 gap

I second this. I pulled my +4's in favor of Bosch supers. Much better for the m10.

I have the Bavauto wires, and I would not buy them again. I had a fitting break on me once. Bavauto replaced it for free, but i am always very careful with them as they do seem delicate. If I was to do it again I would buy the E21 parts setup or Accel wires.

I am currently running the 8.8mm E21Parts wires.

Stock M10 wires are $40.

ACCEL 8.8mm 300+ spiral-core you can crimp the ends on yourself you get 9 wires for about $57.99 +/- few$ they'll handle all the voltage you can put through them, buy them through e21parts.net or if you feel abitious buy the set they come/w the fixtures "little metal plates" so you can crimp those ends on all you need is a vise, a hamer and alot of patience.

I think im gonna go with the e21 parts wires... They sound more durable than the Bavauto ones. And with all the disliking for the support and prices on BMP I dont think I will even bother.

Keep your reciept. No big deal if you have the reciept. :cool

I miss my 78, two weeks sold now. I see your engine in your sig, and the later engine just isn't the same. Mine was as nice or nicer than yours. My new one is on the garage floor, waiting for turkeyday to be over so I can re-gasket the thing. :(
