View Full Version : Where to "tint" your headlights?
kenan 11-16-2005, 01:27 PM A couple of months ago, I bought a set of headlights for my 99 E39 528i from ebay that were "cutom tinted" dark smoke. I love them and they go great with my black car, but I am getting antsy about getting AE headlights.
The smoking on my current headlights, if I recall correctly, were done by paint. It looks professional and is perfect.
If I buy AE, I want to do the same.
Anyone heard of a place that does this kind ot tinting?
PS: I do not want to use a 3M stick on film.
E34nication 11-16-2005, 01:28 PM lamin-x is stick on but all i have seen have looked very good.
BimmerFreak 11-16-2005, 05:22 PM So you want to paint your headlights?
I would go with the the smoked Stoneguard-like product.
It will give you the look you are wanting, plus added protection to your lenses.

jcsomerset 11-16-2005, 05:33 PM I realilze that it probably looks cool and goes with your black car - but why would you want to reduce the effectiveness of the very thing that gives you visibility and safety at night? :dunno
it's not all about looking cool - some of it's about staying alive.
Anyway - just my .02 there - I know you won't listen - just wanted to chime in-

HAWT!
kenan 11-16-2005, 05:57 PM It does not look like paint, and it really barely makes the headlights dimmer.
The problem is the 4% window tint that I havem not the headlights being tinted :)
paul540/m3 11-16-2005, 08:23 PM Whoa is that a visage auto lip on that car?
NickAD 11-16-2005, 11:15 PM Whatever it is, that car looks hot!
"Darth Vader, your car is ready.":evil2
kenan 11-17-2005, 12:47 PM The lip up front is "I donno" ! lol
I have a Hamann rear and skirts and window spoiler. When I bought the window spoiler from this guy in Canada, he showed me pictures of the front spoiler. It is ABS plastic and fits increadibly perfectly and was of great quality. But I seriously don't know who makes it. I love it though :)
paul540/m3 11-17-2005, 03:36 PM LOL ok then its a Visage Auto lip. His name was Alex right? from Toronto?
He's a good friend of mine

Hey, nothing like not having any headlights at night for the sake of aesthetics, eh? Seriously, tinting your headlights is a DUMB IDEA. The only really acceptable solution is a black chrome-like reflector in the light housing itself.
Crippling the output of your headlights is not cool.
kenan 11-18-2005, 01:47 PM Yes, it was Alex from Toronto ... good guy to deal with.
As for "crippling" my headlight performance, I will not sit and argue with you, but I think that I am the one with tinted headlights and not you, right? So I would know how much crippling effect the tinting had? and I tell you, it is not crippling ...
enough said!
eurotunerwerks 11-18-2005, 02:20 PM what intake system do you have? It looks like AA but you don't need the two opens, no? are both functional?
kenan 11-18-2005, 07:20 PM I have stock air intake. The brushed aluminum circles that are on the grill are functional and they are brake cooling ducts. However, there are two other openings right beside the fog light.
I have the Hamann fog light covers, and the left side is functional, as the intake snorkle is there stock. The right side is not functional.
E34M50 11-18-2005, 11:02 PM maybe i'm alone in this but i never really gotten into smoked out lights make it look like its part of the body look. but then again its just me.
