What is the definition of a "Classic Automobile"? One could easily say that the BMW Z8 fits that definition. Not just the fact that production of this amazing automobile was limited, but more because it was designed to be a classic, including both the tradition of BMW along with state of the art modern technology. The mix of both worlds is what makes the Z8 truly unique.

The 2003 will be the last year of production for the Z8. To continue to add to the uniqueness of this model, the Z8 will be produced (in very limited numbers) in the 6-speed version through December of 2002, and as a Special Edition BMW ALPINA roadster V8 for the remainder of the 2003 model year which most likely will end in June/July.

The BMW ALPINA roadster V8 will have the look of the present Z8, but will have the following unique differences:

* 4.8 Liter, V8 engine developing 375 horsepower

* 5-speed SWITCH TRONIC automatic transmission featuring steering wheel shift controls

* 20" Alloy Wheels with 255/35R front and 285/30R rear performance tires

* Two available colors with special BMW ALPINA interiors:
Titanium Silver Metallic Paint over Black and Sport Red Leather
Jet Black over Black, Sport Red and Crème with Black Leather

The soft top will be black and the hard top will be the color of the vehicle

The retail price: $136,500

Production of this vehicle will begin in November of 2002. Every BMW Center will receive only one of these exclusive models since total production quota is approximately 400 to 450 vehicles.

(Destined to be a classic: all Z8 parts will be available from BMW for next 50 years)

How come the Alpina V8 is going to make only 375HP? Doesn't the stock engine make 400HP? :confused:

It's going to be in my garage one of these days. It's definitely going to be a classic.

I'm pretty sure it's a bored 4.4. Alpina's been doing well with thier car because of the auto-tranny they've dropped in it. Too may fat rich people can't drive or are too lazy to drive a stick!!! It's an F-cking weekend car!! It's a great deal for Alpina since I'm sure they also keep the 5.0 M5 motor after jacking up the price to drop in the 4.8 motor.
