We have a guy with an 02 M3 with factory installed bluetooth. He wants to put in a Pioneer Nav deck but wants to retain his blue tooth functions (call comes in, radio mutes, plays through speakers, etc, etc) Will this do the job?
http://www.parrot.biz/products/index.php?id=evolution Says it taps into the front speaker lines and mutes the radio when a call comes in and plays it through the speakers. Anyone use one of these?

OK, if his reference is factory Bluetooth, there are somethings he will lose when he makes the transition to the Pioneer.

He won't have the ability to see any caller info or phone book info on the Pioneer screen. He CAN use that info with the voice controls with the CK3000.

I have a CK3100 in my car with the LCD display. I don't use the voice control, I just use the knob and the screen. I like it.

The Parrot pieces do interrupt the speaker wire and hijack a speaker for handsfree audio. But I don't do that much in amplified systems, and I don't know that I'd try it in a BMW with an aftermarket HU and an OEM amp. I'd probably use a dedicated HF speaker in that situation. Oh, and the wiring on the back of the CK3000 or CK3100 will take you a while to figger out - it's plug and play in like a Renault, or an old VW - but not in anything else.

Make sure which phone he has and what features he gets - every BT car system has partial support of some handsets.

Your post reads like you work at a shop - and you don't do HF BT kits?

Unfortunately we dont have any BT kits, mostly because the aftermarket companies dont offer anything to integrate with them right now. Thats why Im asking you guys:) If this works I imagine we can start doing more BT kits in the future.

But with the CK3000 if he has a call coming in it will mute the radio and play the call through the speakers or just one speaker? I guess this guy will be the guinea pig...

I thought integration was the installer's job? (Oh, well, we ALL know I'm ignorant : )

The thing is supposed to do that. IT SAYS it is plug and play. In the EU it probably is but in 99% of US cars it is NOT plug and play.

We have a distributor up here that actually ships the BT kit to their dealer csutomers with my instructions for changing the wiring in the box. I did them in Illustrator and gave them the file.

You know that the real answer, which your shop probably doesn't have the cojones to do, unfortunately, is to tell the guy to wait for the AVIC Z1 with onboard BT built in. Because when he hears about it, he will be PISSED that he bought this one from you. It was announced at SEMA and will ship sometime soon, I don't know exactly.

But that's more of a customer service issue, I guess : )

Thing with that is the guy has the stock navigation system he can put it also. He wanted the AVICN2 for all the other stuff it does. Im gonna tell him about this Parrot piece and if he wants to buy it and have my installers see how well it works than so be it. As far as the AVICZ1 that could take months before we start seeing it in stores...

The other pice you should consider is the Raytel, which is a lot more money, but has killer voice rec, I hear.
E mail me at bimmerforums at avincar dot com and I'll send you the CK3100 wiring instructions (CK3000 is a little different).
