View Full Version : H&R or Eiback?!?
82bmwe21 11-14-2005, 04:32 AM Hey I was just wondering what springs are better, H&R or Eiback?? Iv read that eibacks only drop an 1.0" in the rear and 1.3" in the front, were H&R's drop 1.3" front and back. I'v read that the eiback springs only lowner and not stiffen. Im looking into geting some lowering springs and shocks (bilstein sports or konis) I would like to hear some opinions on otherpeoples aftermarket suspension setups.
Thanks in advance:D ,
Chris
BARRY E36 M325 11-14-2005, 04:42 AM I'm in the same boat as you. I've been shoppping around for suspension and have done my homework and come up with the belief of Adjustable Koni's with H&R sport springs will ride quite nicely and not cost too much to have.
Bilsteins are fairly nice and popular on the BMW's, but, for true racing use, I would go with Koni's since they are one of the most profesional when it comes to being adjustable.
Eibach is a suspension company that I have always seen as more of a modern car company rather than old school and vintage style.
H&R is a company that is kinda universal on the whole sport and racing springs. I have seen Mustang Cobra R's with H&R's, Skylines, M3's of all era's, and many others rideing with H&R springs. I feel as though one cannot go wrong with a nice set of H&R springs oin their E21.
Al Canuck 11-14-2005, 04:46 AM I have H&R's with Koni for my 323i, but they're not in yet. I have Eibach with Koni on my 633csi, and they are quite nice. The ride is good, but one thing I noticed with my 6er is that the nose did not come down much from stock. Maybe .25", but the rear came down over an inch. It irked me a bit, but not too much. It is a daily driver, afterall.

kdanielson 11-14-2005, 10:09 AM I have Eibachs on my '82, they ARE stiffer than stock, they do NOT lower as much as others but I drag over some speed bumps so I don't want it lower. I have run Eibachs on other cars as well with great results. I don't think they are making e21 springs currently-call to be sure.

waferman 11-14-2005, 01:55 PM Yes, they are making e21 springs , 1.3", 1", or at least you can still get em new. I have them also and they are too low for my tastes; mine also have an old e21 part number so maybe they are lower than todays' Eibock e21 springs. Here is a pic of my car with 17" rims, taken by the prev. owner. With stock basketweaves with 185 70R13's it really looks hinky. I like a dropped car, but this is too low for my tastes! I feel like I need to pick up autocrossing just to justify the setup...cause I sure as hell dont need all the goodies on this thing:rolleyes

jays323i 11-14-2005, 03:33 PM Eiback, Eibock, or Eibach out of these three I think the later has a great ride:D
E21PWR 11-14-2005, 05:31 PM i autox my car, and i have full bilstien suspension, i think its great, its pretty freakin stiff, but very good for cornering in my opinon, its sits 2" lowered right now
Racer Doc 11-14-2005, 06:29 PM What is a full Bilstein suspension, I did not think that Bilstein made springs?
IMO, there's not much difference between the H&R sport springs & Eibach springs. I used to have the H&R's on my car, and Matt has the Eibach's on his 320is...they looked to have the same ride height.
Dropped325i 11-14-2005, 08:18 PM isnt one a progressive and one linear ?
i can't remember. but IMO, there's very little difference, if any, in handling between the 2 springs.
honestly, just go for the one you can get the cheapest; or spend a little more money on adjustable coilovers :)
e21bimmer 11-14-2005, 10:41 PM i have eibach springs and bilstien shocks. no complaints. good combo much stiffer . better handleing all around.:buttrock
Jmabarone 11-14-2005, 11:29 PM anyone know whether or not it's a good idea to run H&Rs on stock shocks.

82bmwe21 11-15-2005, 03:35 AM the eibacks are on ebay for $220,shipping included. but it says they lower 1.3" in the front and 1.0" in the rear, why is this? why dont they lower 1.0 or 1.3 inches all around?
Heres link (they still have 10 sets in stock)

The spring rates of the eibach are too stiff for a standard shock to cope with the rebound. ie They were made for confort and slow rebound, not fast.
Hence where people like Koni and Bilstein come in and make sport version for us :)
82bmwe21 - You've seen the fron of the E21's....... That's why the drop is more at the front. The backs don't really need it.
E21PWR - What springs do you have?? Are you sure they are a 2" Drop or you just guessing? Reason I ask is, I'm still torn between GC coil overs or Spax 60/60 (60mm front and back) springs (2.36 Inches all around)
Just wanna make sure if I go the Spax, it will be low enough.
Cheers

stroked320i 11-15-2005, 11:39 AM if you are going to be getting springs and shocks i reccamend you check out, 2002performance.com they have alot of cool stuff for e21's, 2002, and the e12. They have full adjustable coilovers for under $600. I wish i would have seen them earlier, i have H & R springs with Bilstein sports, love the setup but, I wish i had coilovers, i always want my car to be lower.
Jmabarone 11-15-2005, 08:02 PM okay, so if I need to replace my shocks when I get springs, what would yall recommend? I'm leaning towards Bilstein Sports and H&R Sports, the $675 kit that BMP has.

vtbimmer 11-15-2005, 10:06 PM i found my eibach sport's for $205 shipped thru www.spp.com
Investment banking??:confused
Jmabarone 11-15-2005, 10:08 PM thanks Matt. shox.com seems to have some more suspension items than other places I've seen. $399 for a set of Bilstein Sports is pretty decent.

MattE21 11-16-2005, 04:14 AM spp should have gone to supreme power parts.com unless they went out of business
82bmwe21 11-16-2005, 05:52 AM :help Ok need an awnser here, I'v read in a older post in this forum that eibacks only lower and not stiffen. And that H&Rs lower, and stiffen a bit. Anyone know anything about this? Also how much less body roll is there over stock with H&Rs, bilstein sports and 15s?
